Was it relatively painless to do? The last (of course) bolt on the exhaust manifold just spins, indicating that it is stripped. Has anyone done a head thread? What size bolt is that?:hhmm:

Thanks!

Dave

Yes, I've done a bunch of them. It's always the last one that strips out, and it's a huge PITA to reach. You'll need some sort of right-angle drill or an attachement that does the same. You can get a kit, I have one at home but I'm sure someone else here will post up the thread soon.

Some have also posted previously (this is a common problem, search) about installing a larger thread, but I'm not crazy about the idea.

When I had my head off, I Helicoil'd ALL the stud holes as a precaution.

I tried a search for 'helicoil' but didn't get much. Nothing specific. Hopefully someone will post a link or point me toward the details.

Thanks!!

Edit: Just did a seach on Google for 'helicoil toyota truck' and the second result was THIS thread!!

Anyone?:meh:

The truck is now DOWN because of a massive oil leak from the front seal. Gonna go all the way with it and change the timing chain, oil pump and water pump.

I barely made it home yesterday...took 4 quarts of oil to get back home it was leaking so bad!!!

Having to suffer and drive my 96 CTD...
