I remember reports that a garage door opener inadvertently could activate a winch that had the remote RF receiver plugged in. That bugged me enough to not use the RF receiver (besides this being a first-gen HF12k where the remote always had an irritating delay…).
So, hypothetically speaking, if the winch rope is fully spooled in, and the winch gets activated by a stray RF signal, it would try to pull in. With the hook against the fairlead, if nothing gives, there’d be generation of heat - and that could melt the rope. Was the rope damage on the motor side or the gear side?
