did'nt take any pics.....
left friday after work, got to moonrocks at 1am after searching for my buddies and their toy haulers for an hour. lotsa people up there for the big weekend. literally hundreds of rigs, mostly minis and buggies.
got up the next morning at 7am and had some breafast burritos. took the rig for a rip down the dirt road. not sure how fast i went, did'nt have a cigarette lighter for the gps. but i was hauling ass for sure.
back to camp, got the crew together and went wheeling for a couple of hours. spanked most of the lines and obstacles i tried. got denied on two of them but did'nt want to push my luck and break anything. wanted to get some seat time to get used to the rig.
i'd say the 40 is fully potty-trained. this thing is super driveable and predictable. it does'nt do anything goofy under load or off camber. i got comfortable in it right away.
went back to camp for some lunch and then headed out again. ran some more obstacles without a hitch and then got back to one of the lines i could'nt get up earlier. there were a couple of buggies trying it and neither of them made it after many attempts. i figured i'd try it again. lined up, went for it and drove right up. guess i picked the right line. one of the buggies pulled up next to me a minute later " did you just make that "? i said "yup". "show me the line" i said "sure". drove back around, tried about 5 or 6 times and got denied. did'nt see anybody else make it the rest of the day.
wheeled till about 4pm and then it turned from cold and windy to cold, rain/sleet/snow. no windshield. no doors. no goggles and no heater so i decided to head back to camp. weather got worse and it snowed on and off for the rest of the day and night. i woke up at 3am ( slept in the back of the dodge; back seats folded flat with my memory foam matress ). felt cold so i started the truck to get the heater going. that took literally 40 minutes for the needle to move past 140 degs since i was faced into the wind. it was 29 degs in the truck.........
woke up the next morning and it was still very windy, snowing on and off and solid overcast. we hung out for a couple of hours, cooked some breakfast and coffeee on the tailgate and then decided to pack it in. weather was'nt getting any better.
got over the pass at donner without any problems and home by 4pm after having some lunch on the road.
great trip even though the weather sucked. i'm ready to go to moab!
