I have the grill painted and ready to go for the most part...

But I am at the point where I need to paint behind the raised letters of the grill. The only idea I have had in order to get a clean job was to apply rubber cement to the letters, tape off the grill, spray flat black then simply rub the letters to remove the paint.

Aside from that maybe use a syringe apply the paint behind the letters and let it "flow" into place.

How have you guys done it?

*note: The grill is primer in the photo but has been painted pewter.

I had a local sigh shop make white vinal letters that stick on. 2 years and they still look OK

I used blue painters tape and covered the whole lettered section. Then I used an exacto knife and carefully cut out the letters. A couple of light coats with a black spray paint and you're done. Crisp, professional looking and pretty easy to do.
