I've had one about 2 years, it's doing a great job for cooling. It's also very sharp, very noisy and not so hot in water crossings.

i did but i just went out and looked close at mine, i just cleaned it when i did all that work and it has oiley s*** alover it i do hav a couple spare fans i will try one of those too.

The fan can't slip in the water, the blades can flex forward into the radiator.

You can get new viscous fluid (the oily chit that's all over your fan clutch) from Toyota for ~$25. Takes about 20 mins or so to replace the goop in the clutch. I run 2 10" electric fans on a PAC-2700 , but highway driving only. Not sure how they perform in water. Perhaps remove the drive-belt before water crossing?

I'd like to try whatever electric fans the H1's get from the factory. I forgot the manufacturer that they use for the supplemental electric fans the military uses now (Flex-a-Lite?). The factory ones obviously needed more airflow in the field. Whatever electric H1 fan is factory issued must be pretty resistant to water, they go crazy deep.

I might try rigging up a old ford metal fan (4 blade) . I will let ya know how it goes...........my junk is getting worked on anyway. Besides I have 4 laying here I might as well give it a wirl

as long as the connections are sealed, it should be fine...

It's not like the water is exerting any pressure at the depths a H1 can go. Any fan should be fine.

I'd just wire in a toggle so I could manually turn it off for water crossings.

As far as for a Toyota, Flex-a-Lite, AFAIK has the highest CFM at the lowest draw I've seen...

And x2 on the water hitting the blades...I learned that way back when watching swamp buggy's on TNN. They'd hit the water so fast, and so hard it would grab the blades and pull'em straight into the rad...

Aside from the MarkVIII or Taurus options a couple of friends swear by a Spal and their electric controller with an override switch to turn it off for crossings.SPAL USA

I did a quick search

**Clarification**
*Not to bash, I am merely using this reply as an example but we do all realize that when you clip in a search result it is a specific event, unique to your login and the results you paste in from the link you get are null and void. Perhaps from now on we'd be best served giving the specific terms used instead...For example, I used "2nd Gen Hilux 4Runner Electric Fan Mod Controller". Use these terms within the boards search bar instead of the browser (a mistake newbs often make since they are unfamiliar sometimes with the reference to "Do a search"...

:) Cool?

Even better is using the Advanced search option and putting the terms in the 1st bar, skip the member/user part and scroll on the lower right toolbar to select the specific forum you want to search. *Realize now b/c I just posted that specific group of terms in a row that'll be the first result...D'Oh! Instead of my result link I'll give these...
