i am just starting my ford 300 swap in my 81 toyota 4x4 buggy. i am having to cut the fire wall back and bring the front frame forwerd 6 in on eather side to have more room or the pully to have good space. relocated the radiator the rear of the truck going to put snorkel on truck for my twin turbo setup down pipe to stack in the bed. fuel cell with fire blak, an intake fuel pump. 4.9 bord and strocked to = 5.8 in line six.

I'm very interested in doing this swap myself as I have a 3 vehicles I run 300s in. But a built 300 weight is around 600 to 650 lbs and produces 200-250 hp and around >300 ft lbs of torque. Will the drivetrain handle that much torque?

Easily

I know this is a dead topic, but man im really interested in this Ive had a 77Bronco that I dropped a 300-6 into it, I was broke it was the 80s and the motor ran well and preformed really well in the Bronco, I actually traded that Bronco for a FJ40 w a SB350. then I had a Generic 86-F250 4x4 ZF5 with the same motor it was superb! Admittedly I havent gotten this 88 FJ62 dialed in yet it was asleep for a long time but im not a fan of Automatics my 83 FJ60 2F with 4 speed was much more impressive. Im gonna get rid of these 35x12.50s should improve performance 1uite a bit.

The 4.9 is big block territory. Came in F600s, school busses etc. IMO it is superior to the Chevy 292 due to the head design. The 300 also, can handle large amounts of boost being that it has a 7 main block. My 85 3F has good power for a 4.0 at 9,000 feet, but I have thought about adding a turbo… regardless, when climbing a grade, you really get a sense of it’s ability to pull, although I run 31s due to altitude and mountain driving… I’d rather turbo a 300, paired with a HD 4 speed manual and NP205. Bulletproof. I’d never take a v8 over the 300. No timing chain, one head gasket, and no intake manifold gaskets leaking coolant into oil to worry about.

If Toyota had any sense, they would have built a bigger straight six maintaining the push rod design, incorporating hydraulic lifters and a roller cam… instead of the 4.5 abomination.

Lastly, my 96 F150 5 speed manual with a 300 was a fast truck, and it was completely stock. With a cam, bigger valves, and the later model high flowing exhaust manifolds, a 300 is hard to beat.
