When I lived in Wyoming, there were a few friends that had yurts near Grand Teton National Park...They are amazingly strong for how they are built- the wood slats on the sides provide quite a bit of strength.

How high up do you plan to put this yurt? The height will determine the cross bracing required - either that, or could you close in the room below the yurt?

I do live in CA and am looking into reinforcement for earthquake protection. I'm just looking for any suggestions and advice and thought I'd ask here as everyone is usually so helpful.

Make sure the pier foundation (half-assed as it is) is poured against earth and at least three deep--better if connected with a tie beam., rather than isolated
