Hi All, after spending the last couple years hanging on the 60 series forum I'm moving over with the purchase of a 1969 FJ55. I've been wanting a pig for quite a while and here's what I have as of today.

350, 4 speed, Atlas Overdrive. Took it for a drive today and absolutely love this rig. After looking over some of the fine 55's here mine looks kind of sad but then I look again and say "It's mine!"

Okay, that's fair but will have to wait until tomorrow when it's daylight. It doesn't look quite as nice any closer. ;)

Drives nice, made a freeway run this morning at the 75 speed limit. A bit different than my 62 that's for sure. \

:princess: said "You've got your work cut out for you!"

Anyone have a couple extra doors lying around! :D

alrighty sounds good! So its a twenty footer than huh??

Mmmmmmmmmm Baconnnnn.

That 55 does not look too bad. Mine was way worse when I drug it out of the weeds back in 1992. I could stick my head through the rust holes that were in the fenders.

Good luck and congrats on finding a pig worthy of restoration.

Thanks, tore into the interior today and I'm pleased. One crack where the driver's seat mounts to the floor that's only about 2-3" long, some rust of course but it doesn't seem to be very deep at all. Hope it's just surface but I expect surprises. The rubber matting is probably 10 years old and is pretty good too. The PO did some rust repair and sound deadening from the front seat up the firewall, not sure how well he dealt with the rust.

I didn't get around to jacking it up but my current plan of attack is working on the floorboards which is time consuming but not expensive. Figure it's time to rebuild the knuckles and probably brakes at the same time and see what condition the TRE's, etc are in too. The steering is an issue, looks like the box is leaking and there's a whole lot of play in the front end/steering wheel. What's the general feeling about improving the steering?

Overall it's better than I was expecting.

There is a lady selling a pair of piggys one is quite trashed (rusted body floor, etc) but has decent doors and other parts. The other one has a few smashed in doors and a decent body and started up the other day. I think she was asking less than a grand for the pair, so if you want a few parts cars I could try to check it out again for you, if she is still selling them. both frams were decent good wheels, ok tires...etc

I will see if I can get down there next weekend! and do so, I have to look her up again though!...

 Good thing you saved that :pig: from the pork grinder :D
So, the PO made the drivetrain mods, which is the most expensive part, now all you gotta do is fix the body & do some minor mods, like you mentioned power steering. This will be the most time consuming part, but *not very expensive. As for the power steering, I went the Scout saginaw route w/ hydro-assist, due to the size of the unit & what my :pig: will see --> heavy trail use. How bigga tire you gonna run? I think 35's are the max before you need to look at hydro-assist. There are other options like the mini box if your gonna run smallish tires. Get that build thread goin dude we NEED more build threads on here! :hillbilly:

The PO's brother (2 owners back) did the drive train mods some 12+ years ago so it's not like I have a new drive train now. ;)

The biggest tire will be 35's. I have to do some reading to see what would work best for me.

I'll see what I can do.

Sweet! I just got into the 55 arena as well, same boat, man. Keep us updated.

That is a very nice early Pig. Those front turn signals were only on the first 12,000 Pigs ever made.
I got some doors. Lemme know if you can't find any closer to you.

Front doors have a special appeal to me.

It's nice to finally have one, how's yours?

Very cool!!
Ever need some help, let us know!
Where'd ya find it?
Where are you keeping it?

Thanks Max and/or Rob! Have you done anything to any of your 40's steering? If so I'd like to know about it. I hear you're making progress on Kiel's 62, when's the motor going in? Need another body to help?

As you know I don't have a garage and drive to my kids house when I need one. I came home from picking it up and :princess: was looking at places to buy with garages. What a woman!

Nice to know on the turn signals, thanks!

Can you educate me on doors interchangability? I understand there was a change around '76 or so.

Yes. There was a change in the window frame in '76 or so...the leading top edge angle was rounded off where the A pillar meets the roof. Any wind-wing door will fit your '69. And a one-window door from a '74 or '75 will also fit. A '76 and later door will fit an early Pig, but will look funny. An early door will not fit a later Pig without mods. A wind-wing can be installed in a '74 or '75 one-window door (I've done that). Don't know if a one-piece window can go in an earlier door, never tried that.
