Another high beam issue. Searching threads has me running in circles...

I have a 1994 FZJ80, and the high beams are not switching on. The indicator on the dash comes on, but the lights do not. If the headlights are turned off, when the stalk is pulled to flash the lights, only the low beams flash, the high beams do not. I have a set of auxiliary driving lights wired in, according to the instructions, that would normally switch off when the high beams are engaged, but they remain on rather than dipping out with the low beams as they used to.

All headlights have been converted to LEDs, following all instructions, and have been working flawlessly for years, until now.
The high beams are rarely, if ever, used. They are mainly just used to flash at an animal in the road or a bonehad with their high beams on.

All the wiring is intact, no obvious signs of corrosion, etc, etc. I know enough about electrical to potentially make things worse, so any guidance is greatly appreciated.

I have the FSM and Electrical Diagram books as well.

Since you have changes to the stock setup (wiring) I would say to go back to factory setup and see if the lights work. If they do then you know the add-ons is where the fault is occurring. You could then add components until you determine the culprits.

Afghan combat vet and pro team mechanic. You have led a life my friend.

If everything once worked as it should and doesn't now, I'd bet on a short (or open) somewhere. Since the stalk/lever turns on the dash indicator, I'd guess the circuit works up to that point. I'd start with teh bulbs and work backward from there, looking for any obvious exposed/broken wires.

If that doesn't provide any joy, you'll need a multimeter and several beers.

Double check that the sockets are getting power when you flash them with a multimeter.

I am having the opposite problem as you, literally. Removed Aux lighting from PO and only the HB work, LOL.

Check the relay also.

Found this the other day for my future weekend plans, but it may help trace your issue:

Good luck, friend!!

If pulling the stalk switch activates your main beams and the high beam dash indicator, but not your brights, the problem has to be the wiring between the high beam +12v lead and dimmer combo switch. The proven working circuits are show in green highlighter, and the things to check are in red:

High beams that will not stay on except by pulling the blinker arm . Same symptom on my 97FZJ rig. The integrated combination switch had gone bad.
