There have been plenty of really good threads on durabak and I am going to be doing this soon as well. Curious about the smooth finish through.
Has anyone used the smooth finish durapak?
I would like to see some pics if anyone has.
Just wondering what it looks like compared to the rough finish.

I haven't seen any up close, but 4Wheel & offroad magazine did an old p/u in smooth blue a few months back. I bet you could find it on their site.
I like the rough finish for the rugged vehicle and I'm afraid the smooth stuff might look to much like a patent leather covering for my rig. My opinion from pics I have seen.

Hhmmm,
Just went by the local line-x place to see the difference between the rough and smooth finish. Not much difference to them. Could not tell any difference from 5 feet away. I am thinking the smooth will not collect as much crime.
They only charge $80 per side to do the fender flare areas, middle detail and rocker. Probably will cough up the dough on this one.

So $160 for all four flares and the rocker panels? I'd jump on that. A gallon of Durabak shipped to you would cost you almost that much. Then you'd have to buy some Xylene for clean up and sandpaper for preping.

Are they replacing the flare gaskets or just line-xing up to the gaskets? You'd get a better job done if the flares were removed and you purchased new gaskets where most smart shoppers get their OEM parts. Just my 2 cents having just done this. After 12 years, my old gaskets were showing their age. Besides, for me, old white flare gaskets would not have looked very good against the new black flares against the white truck.

What color is your LC?

Mine 80 is white. I have taken off the rear most flares but I am having a hardtime parting with them. I do not like all the mud they seems to collect but I think that I am going give it a try with the flares. Still on the fence. I have even thought about removing the flares and having them spray the flare area then spray the flares and put them back on. I don't know.. maybe just go flareless. Damn fence is hurting my a$$.

The price was to do the flares or flare area (they do all prep), the center detail (3 inch along the middle) and the very bottom rocker panel. I was expecting $200 per side so yes I will be jumping all over this one. They can do it cheaper than I can and I can play with my girls (3 & 1 yr olds so time is precious)

Where did you go? I went to a line-x place in WS and got a quote to do what you described and i was told $500.

LOL! Yea, after removing my flares, I did think long and hard. They were off for 3-4 weeks and I was kind of getting used to it. I've seen many trucks with the flares off and the flare area line-xed or durabaked. It is nice.

The black on white does look great (biased opinion of course). If you leave the flares on, do replace the gaskets. It's worth the $60-70 bucks a smart shopper will pay for the set of four (actually six gaskets - rear comes in two pieces).

Hopefully your fence is not barbed wire! :flipoff2:

Concrete,
I only saw one place listed on their website.
Line-X up on University Prkwy next to Targette
Itchin to do it now before he changes his mind.
I really like what Trapper did picking up the middle detail.
Here is my thinking:
-No flares-
1. I was surprised to find the releaf detail under the rear flare when I removed them.
2. Flare collect grime and mud up under them
3. My flares a scratched up and one is cut up

-Flares-
1. I really like the way the flares cover the rear door to wheel well. Makes it look like one piece with no line
2. Gives the 80 that wider stance appearance
3. Would be nice to have them with bigger tires.

So you see I am leaning towards flares.
Can always rip them off later.

$80 for a gallon of black

You can also get quarts - though I think the gallon I got for my 40 was around $130 (blue was more espensive then) - the 4 quarts I got later were 179 delivered. There is a real premium for getting it in quarts. For the amount you're talking about doing, I'd get two quarts.

 I am going to have to call my local Line-x shop and see if they are as generous. I will send back the Durabak that is on its way now and go with Line-x for that price.

Heath - Black Textured with UV is $120. My black w/ UV shipped was approx $140.

yep, you're right

https://www.durabakcompany.com/secure/order.htm

but a gallon was enough to coat my whole 40 - sans top and back doors (didn't have them at the time). A quart or two will cover what's normally done. They don't list the quarts on the site, but if you call them, you can get them. Otherwise, get two guys wanting to do it at the same time (same color), and split the gallon between two of ya'.

Agree - I have two full quart cans left over and had some left in the roller tray when I finished putting the second coat on. Had I know that, Mo and I could have tag teamed this job and saved some $$$.

I wanna see someone do something other than black. I'm thinking sand would go good on my white LX. Closest thing to the champ-pain or whatever it is now. Wish they made it in GOLD.... I love GOOOOLLLLLLLLLDDDDDD If they had gold durabak, I'd do the whole truck with textured, and I'd call it my ribbed gold member....

I was considering dark grey but I changed my mind at the last minute. I like simple and plain, I am just not flashy, and I was afraid it would look too busy. I have black wheels too so I don't think it would look as good as with the factory wheels.

WalkingEagle,
I think we may need to form a gold member support group for you;p
Mine 80 is white and I have thought about doing the sides in that hammer color but will probably stick to black. The contract rocks

I got excited after I read your quote so I called and went to a couple of Line-x places today and got quoted $480-$1000. I would have that guy do it before he realizes how low he quoted.
