Funny I actually just went to the dmv to get some restored plates, unfortunately I couldn't because the old plates I had said exempt on them, darn! lol so now I have to track down some more old plates with some decent numbers.

One thing I love about NV is that they do commerative "retro" plates. I will be getting a set when I get my 60. Already got the personalized plate picked out and what not, if I could find the right old plate that would be sick, but that is a long shot in the dark.

Took Marley out for about an hour drive around town. Not to bad of a drive. Need to check a few things as I'm not getting hardly any power in 3rd and 4th gear. Yes, I know it's a 2F but, this is quite doggy for any I've ever driven. I'll check the usual things first... spark plugs, run valves, adjust carb and see what that gets me. I have serious doubts Marley will see 65mph right now. A little over 55 was pushing it today.

Throw up some ideas... besides the usual ones like V8... Diesel... etc..

Timing, I drove mine for a while until I got timing light. Turned out my timing was off by almost 30 deg, feels like a race car now I even venture into passing lane :steer:

I will look at the timing as well. I pulled a plug and I'm running pretty rich it looks like. So, I'll pull out a new set of Denso plugs and give Marley a complete run through this weekend.

It'll show itself pretty quickly. Just need to get under the hood and spend some quality time there. Gives me an excuse to install all those new vacuum lines and hook up the air cleaner to snorkel as well.

I really like the half doors. Good Job!.. Black would stand out on your cruiser for sure. I think the light grey quartz is too light. I'd lean toward the medium quartz as my first pick and then pyroclastic. That's looking at the online samples and toggling back and forth. The pyro looks like it'll stand out but, of course, not like black..

I'd like to see the chips up against it..

Paint chips have arrived from left to right (LQ,DQ,Pyro,BK) im leaning towards Pyro

So, I checked the timing today and it was off significantly so I adjusted it to within FSM specs. Changed spark plugs, and adjusted carb. Marley runs much better fellas. Motor is definitely a bit tired though (rebuild of my spare 2F or engine swap in the near future I think). Took Marley up an 8% grade and up approx. 800 ft elevation change. 32 mph top speed up the hill. However, top speed on flat terrain was ...........76.8 mph per my GPS at 6400' elevation +/- 800' over the course of the 26 mile trip.

Runs great around town and we'll goto Flaming Gorge in the morning for a little fun and play on some easy off road trails there too. I'll report back

Hope to get panels covered and everything wired this weekend but, we'll see.

J,
I have read your whole thread, so I hope I haven't missed it, but what size square stock did you use for your roof rack? Great idea keeping it squared off with the 45'd corners and no bends. Go's great with the square shape of a 60/62. After looking at all the bent cornered DOM tubing, then seeing yours, the light bulb above my head lit up! Great job man.

Danny, It is 1"-14 gauge/.083" wall square tubing. Weight is 1.035# per ft. Thanks for the compliment. I like how it looks too but, if I were to do it again I'd cut everything on a diamond. I really like that look. Mine weighed in at 64#s. After driving it around it's not that top heavy but, I can tell it's up there.

On a diamond, as in rotating each piece of square tubing 45 degrees? Haven't seen that before, one of a kind! Notching each vertical would be labor intensive, but you're used to that! One more question, you made your own mounting brackets right?

Thanks!

Danny

Yep, 1/4" x 2" metal strap, 3/8" pipe, 3/8" all-thread and 2" angle iron shaved on one end to fit under gutter. Bend the angle to get the height you need for your rack to clear your roof, then reproduce however many you want. It's the first one that's a PITA!! HA!

Hey reevesci, massive kudos on your work so far, a huge inspiration for me, as fresh as I am to landcruisers.
Just wondering, you mentioned earlier about rebuilding your 2f, how do you plan to go about it (diy, specialist etc)? I've rebuilt a few vw engines and I plan on rebuilding a 2h I got off eBay, but I can't seem to find any reference material for the rebuild, any suggestions?
Cheers mate

If I go back with a 2F I'll have the local machine shop do all my work, order parts, etc... I will assemble per the FSM.

Follow this link below and it will take you to a download page for the 2H/12H-T FSM manual. I just downloaded the complete Engine manual in less than 10 minutes.

https://forum.ih8mud.com/diesel-tech-24-volts-systems/237618-toyota-factory-manual-2h-engine.html

Follow the steps within that thread.. post #3 is what I followed and it worked perfectly.

Step by Step Example of how I did it- Master Portal - forums.bauchan.org/Downloads THEN click on ... Toyota Workshop & Repair Manuals THEN SCROLL DOWN 2H/12H-T Engine Manual - PN: RM012E and click on the round emblem with the paw in it next to the word "filesize".

This 2H/12H-T manual is from November-85 FYI.

Good luck

Decided against the Flaming Gorge drive this morning and went to White Mountain instead. Easy trails with gradual elevation changes.

Wife enjoyed the little ride as well. She was like a little kid wanting to drive so, I let her drive Marley back to the house. ;) I like the heavy OME kit off road. It is a little bouncy even with all the armor on. But, I believe it will settle down in a month or so.
