Will a 22RE higher milage engine be enough to push a 3rd gen truck with dual hydro steer, 100 amp alternator R151 to Black box(Klune style)to dana 300 and 38 inch swampers?

I'd go with at very least 5.29's, but 5.71's would be better. Look here if you've heard that 5.71's are weak:

But if you are a skinny petal kind of guy, you probably will still be disappointed. 22RE's in stock shape only put out 110-120 HP and in the 140-160? Ft Lbs of torque, a high mileage one while it still may be a very reliable engine is most likely going to be putting out less.

Why are you considering this engine in a 3rd gen. truck??

What was the engine in it originally, and what happened to it?

3rd gen came with 22RE stock.

How are you planning on using the rig?

Mark...

Gearing is 456 I think, the truck will mainly be used off road for Vancouver Island rock moss and some mud.

Pretty sure the dual steer pump(5 gallons a minute) is going to rob a lot of energy from this poor little engine, not sure if its third gen(1992).

Here is the guys web site who is building this rig and the black box he is using.

you will be very disappointed in mud with that engine. Even with proper gears, those tires are just too big for that motor to turn effectively, even less so with the hydro setup

I have a buddy in Forest Grove, OR that wheels an 83 with a swaped in turbo (22RET) and 5.29s. It has tons of power, as long as he's spooled up. He runs a hydro assist with 37s and it steers with one finger even while wedged against rocks. Plenty of extra steering muscle.

The ram assist tapped into the stock power steering doesn't rob much power and it works great. He had the ram assist before the engine swap, and I don't remember it robbing much power, even from the old carb 22r. Big hydraulics are very cool, however, if I do any hydro in the future, it will be a simple ram assist not full hydraulic, based on his experience.

Most mud is a skif on the surface.

Well if you aren't going with the deep sticky stuff, you'll probly do just fine. If you don't want to regear, dual cases might be a good option. Not my cup of tea, but lots of folks use them
