Very nice work! I like what you have done!

Nice work! I might have to take your idea...:)

Those are really nice looking drawers! I dig the fold down mid-row box thingy.

thanks again fellas. please expand on the idea and share it back, this is fun stuff. everytime i look at it, something else pops up. can add more trap doors near the back to open from inside, cut a hole out of the wooden modules on top to get access to the bins below, if they didn't have lids (or so y ou don't have to drop the tailgait to get access, just flip up the trapdoor.... ugh, if i could do it all over again! :)
cheers!

nope, no probs with the extra 90lbs and then some (like having a young kid in the back i guess OR 3rd row seating ;) ). i'm sure there's a few heavier ones out there with still no probs.

That looks great. I came up with a different design as well but i'm such a bad carpenter that it's not going to get published. There are some good wood mechanics on this forum.

haha, "wood mechanics". Your right though, my woodworking skills are not flash either.
This is a very versatile storage setup. Your an ideas man Romey!

Wow! Nice work! Looks great. I love things with high intrinsic value.

back from the past with a little update....with a homemade cargo net, the hard way!

pretty self explanatory...got some nylon straps of different sizes from a camping store, took some measurements, decided to latch them on using eye-bolts around the perimeter of the deck, while not getting in the way of sleeping (with mats/sleeping bags down, i'm sure we wont notice them), hand stiched every intersection (took a lil while! but i kinda like doin mundane stuff like this) arranged so that i could use the buckles for some of the strapping. i can fold the net in half to cover the rear part, and secure part of it to the top boxes, or i can take the top boxes off and net everything down, lot's of ways to tie things down. should be fun tryin it out for the first camping trip!

a bit of a pain tryin to line things up, taping the mock up down before doing tape and small stitches to hold the shape/weave before stitching it properly and making it strong enough to hold camping stuff down (camp chairs, tent, bags, stroller, etc..nothing crazy heavy so it should work okay)

folded back, the buckles will meet the strap ends. i added 2 straps midway to anchor on the top box to hold the front down while the straps fold back (sorta sandwiching the contents). i think this way it's quite versatile...the one end with all the buckles i can always use for more connecting points when using the whole net if, say, i had to drive with the bed folded down...

. . . hanging baby crib and integrated baby change table comin next!

and here's the baby change table. this way, we can easily pull over, take the baby out of the seat in the middle, plop him on top just behind and change away. just a piece of wood, with blue camping foam, and vinyl on top...swings up to expose some storage for easy access to food/baby stuff, etc..

carefully supervised, little guy can even nap or just lay out for a quick baby massage after a long drive.

IMG_0832-1.jpg

we just have to sorta turn around and kneel on the back seat to handle the little one, just enough head room...

saw a sale on coolers for 10 bucks, 2 fit in snugly in one of the boxes..

nice job on that net.

(could get stuff like that from surplus stores too?)

great baby changing spot too
(cover those nuts sticking out?)

thanks!
yep, thought about the cargo net, but the sizes out there where just so varied (and not too many places around that carried them in that approx. size, besides online) and i just felt like it, lol.

the short nuts aren't too bad, i did think about that scenario, should be an easy fix.

here's the baby crib idea...found the right size container, found some car seat cushions that fit perfectly (2), got some nylon rope, and it all can hang across the back anchored to the rear window bars...

just need to add some sheets, bundle the little guy up, and see how it goes...

it's a little tricky to try and level out, decided to use one of my bins underneath to set it on before securing the knots...but i've since decided to use the same straps that i used for the cargo net, a lot easier with buckles/adjustable(duh!), will take pics again of that set up... should be interesting...gonna try gettin the little one used to sleepin on the bin! tripple checkin that it's safe.... he'll be suspended over our feet, only a few inches from the bottom, we can sit up and pick him up if he fusses...worse comes to worse, he sleeps next to the booby.

(found out from another mudder that someone tried a similar idea on a 60 but i can't find that thread...anyone else try something like this?!)

simple curtains are next, and then it's a "hotel, motel, holiday innnnn!"

Very nice impressive setup...

How much do the measurments of your drawing differ from the 100.

back for a 2year post update! so what i would change:
- taking it apart and putting it back in has been a breeze, so i'd hinge the middle deck again
- instead of the peg board to save insignificant weight, i'd use the same plywood...but she still holds strong today
- instead of the 2 piece fold down thing, i'd make it one piece for even more storage space...never really needed just one seat pulled down and a person sitting on the one side..our baby seat is in the middle anyway..
- the hanging crib will actually work if you have an under 6 month old that didn't roll too much, that's iff you want to cram mom/dad and baby inside the rig...which would mean it'd be nice to have a roof rack/box to store stuff in on top b/c stuff wont fit in the 2 front seats... or pitch a tent or RTT.
- i found that sleeping inside (and i'm 5'7") to be a bit cramp with the head room when sitting up... the exact same set up can be made with lower height bins..if you can live with that, same idea, but it'd give you more head room inside after the deck is lowered a few inches...
- i can live with the middle drawer sliding out with just duct tape underneath it, less hassle with rollers, but that'me. the bins inside the removable boxes are nice to pull out and store and stack, can't do that with drawers on sliders, so i like the versatilitey and i've used different combos of bins in there like having our own bin for clothes/stuff when visiting family, then it forces us to pack right and light and make it all fit in the bins and tucked away..on the back, the stroller/sleeping bags/etc. can strap down under the net.
- the baby change thing was super handy, and the storage underneath for baby stuff and quick food/snacks was easy to get to, my wife liked it.
- i would do a kitchen module to fit one of the boxes, that would pull out, with a leg on one side that pulls down so i can be used as a cooking surface/sink/store kitchen stuff...maybe custom fit a stove and a wash basin to clean up, etc..
- then i would just refine the hardware and maybe carpet everything or paint the bottom pieces for aesthetics
- the cargo net still works like a charm and lets me strap things down in different ways..eye bolts are still strong, nothing is moving
- i'd do it again in a heartbeat on my 60..if and when.

anyone who said they liked the idea and wanted/or did build one....please share! fun stuff!

cheers.
