can you post pics of the Swagman bike mounts or which ones you used?
thanks
:D
oh yeah, nice rack

The one's I used look like these --> Swagman XP Hitch Mounted Bike Rack Replacement Cradle 64860 - etrailer.com

I opted for the locking knobs like these --> Swagman XP Hitch Mounted Bike Rack Replacement Locking Knob P1009 - etrailer.com

I actually found mine on Ebay for a whole lot cheaper.

John,
Can you post a pic of how you mounted the lights to the rack?
Thanks!

How big are the ramps and how you do the rounded ends?

As mentioned previous, the Wildyoats designed roof rack was the inspiration for mine. Here's more info on that build --> The J-Rack

Even more info is here --> https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/59928-new-how-tech-80-series-aluminum-roof-rack.html

I've been wanting to do this for awhile. Looking specifically for the Moose ramp that WildYoats used gave me prices on the order of $180 or more. I found this on eBay for $85 (BuyItNow)

NEW ATV QUAD BI-FOLD RAMP-EXTRA WIDE ALUMINUM RAMPS:eBay Motors (item 290389514683 end time Jan-15-10 16:25:59 PST)

That link will eventually die - look for the seller "discountramps" I'll let you know what it looks like when it gets here.

I also found that speedymetals.com was almost half the cost for the aluminum strip as metalsupermarket.com

Thanks for the info on where to buy. I made my first roof rack from conduit for my Vanagon Syncro and it turned out great. I am planning on retrofitting it to my '91 LC or making a new rack out of these ramps. Sure beats paying close to a 1000.00!! :bang:

Ok, so I finally mounted my rack. It's based on the ATV ramp I posted about above. I'm not a big fan of putting alot of weight on top and I didn't want a full rack, so I actually cut my ramps down. Here are some pics:

Weight without the mounts was about 35 lbs according to the bathroom scale. Very quiet, even with the sunroof open. And very stiff.

Next task - make a bracket to mount my yakima ski rack to it so I don't have to switch back to the load bars!
