Ok, so I can replace a part pretty well but when it comes to understanding electrical all it's over my head.I've read a bunch on the wiring of a higher amp alternator that I'm putting into my 77 fj40 and still can't get it. So I'm thinking of doing this, please tell me if it will work and if it makes any sense.I 'm going to put an 8 gauge wire from the battery positive to the battery terminal on my new 10si alternator with a 100 amp in line fuse and holder, then I was going to put a 30 amp fuse and holder between the white wire with blue stripe original wire and hook that to the battery terminal on the alternator terminal of alternator also.I'm sure there are better ways to do this but in my simple mind this seems ok.What do you think?

You might want to check out mad electrcals website. Ive never bought anything from them, but they have good tutorials on the subject. When you connect the alt straight to the battery it eliminates the need for the ammeter. It can be bypassed. I run an idiot light. I use my battery as the junction block.

At the ammeter you'll find a white wire from the battery. The other side of the ammeter is the white/blue wire. Basically the white wire at the battery supplies power to the vehicle.

I went to the mad electric site and can't understand much for some reason,it just doesn't register with me. I was hoping that what I wanted to do would keep the amp meter and protect it with the 30 amp fuse but still charge the battery better with the 8 gauge wire. Makes sense in my simple mind.

I think Coolerman sells or makes a wiring harness to make that happen. In Factory wiring the alt supplies power to the cabin when the vehicleis running . The charging or discharging goes thru the whole harness, then goes thru the ammeter and finally charges the battery thru a 10 gauge wire. Running a wire from the alt charge terminal to the battery bypasses the ammeter and the harness.

I haven't done it yet. I just got the alternator a few days ago. I need to see about the pully/belt size and mounts. Yes big wire from alternator to battery. I think the ammeter provides power (7VDC to the gas gauge) so I'm not sure what happens when the ammeter and voltage regulator are out of the loop.

I think there is a thread on this somewhere. And IIRC CityRacer sells the correct pully.
