Hey, everyone.
Recently my battery, brake, and oil temp warning lights have all begun blinking randomly and in unison. I can even hear a click behind the dash when they do. Also, my voltage gauge begins to drop when this happens. I've done some basic checks--I don't have much aptitude with electrical systems. The voltage on the battery is around 11.75 while the car is running and with a/c and stereo on. So, the alternator isn't getting charged. The "charge" and "gauge" fuses are good. The belts are tight and no whining from the alternator. The connection at the alternator doesn't have a nice tight fit; it kind of slides on and off really easy. But when I try to snug it up, it doesn't make a difference. Does this sound more like a short? Or bad ground? Fusible link? Again, I'm not too savvy with electrical stuff, so I'm not too sure how to go about locating the fix. Do I need to pull off the dash and check the wiring under there?
When I initially start the rig, say, in the morning, it's fine. Not until I let it run for a bit does it start acting this way. But it will begin to happen at some point. Usually within a few minutes or so.
Anyway, hoping for some feedback.
Thanks.

So to clarify: the nut that holds the alternator cable to the back of the alternator won’t tighten? If that’s correct try putting a washer or two on top of the eyelet of the wire and see if the nut will tighten. It sounds like the threads on the post are damaged. A loose cable back there could cause the issues you describe because you wouldn’t be getting good contact.

Also check the cleanliness and tightness of your battery terminals and cables.

It sounds like the symptoms are pointing at a loose connection or a bad ground somewhere. Possibly a bad fusible link too.

Thanks. No the three prong connector in the back that runs into the harness isn’t nice and snug, but still connects more or less. The other wire is nice and tight.

Your early Christmas tree lights can be caused by worn out alternator brushes.
Cheap fix.

Thanks. Wasn't on my Christmas wish list, but good to know.
