Well, the installwent perfectly! I had to adjust the bracket a little to fit the alternator - but very simple and straight forward. The belt went on the instide pully - closest to the alternator BTW. Once I figured out which wire went to where - it was less than 30 minutes. Charging at almost 13.5 voths at idle - with a charge of 14.7 at 2500 rpm's. Headlights don't dim with the turn signal and the AC on any more...

Thanks for all of the help on this!!

Glad to hear the install went well, but i am curious why yours is riding on the inner pulley and pimps and riding on the outer one? Is there a way to adjust it to ride on the outer one? I ask because i am looking for a way to mount my york on the passenger side of the motor and it appears that if i duplicate pimps alt setup, i should be home free! I already got the brackets ready to go, looking for a pulley to drive it now, and just adding a dual pulley is a no go because it would hit the fan. For some reason, pimps alts sits a good amount closer to the firewall so that it is using that outer pulley! that would be perfect for what i need

if you are running the belt on the closest pully to the alt, how close is the outside pulley from the fan? mine is almost touching as is and it is the single one

any chance on some pics from the side? or insight as to why one MG alt is sitting so much further back on the same engine?

thanks a lot
kevin

I think Pimp got them from Stainless Trays. You can find them on Ebay from the guy too for a little less money, but still a smoke'n deal.

Here is my install - Duall Battery with Stainless Trays

Thanks For That Link Brandon

Are the trays the same on both sides? I see he only has one listed Ambidextrious? (spelling)

Thanks

LOL

Pimp, yours is a 2F right? Is Blue Chips a 350?

Mine is a 350 with the conversion kit - so all LC parts still fit - forward pulley on the MG is probably close to 2 feet from the fan - maybe 18". Fan was relpaced though - and of course, so was the motor - I'll get some pictures and post here.

Thanks For The Links, i just ordered a pair of those trays! That guy is very nice and gave me a good break on the pair!

Thanks

hey pimp

i'm installing my MG today.

it came with 4 washers/spacers for the bottom part of the alt where it sits in the bracket.
that doesn't seem to be enough to fill in the gaps, so i plan on getting some more. did you put all of the washers/spacers on the front part or back part of the back part of the bracket? i can only drop them in on the front part, but i don't know if that will move the alt too far back on the bracket. i can't tell from your pics how yours sits.

i don't even know if the above makes sense w/o photos.

btw, it is the same set up as yours with a 2F.

Hey Patride

Can ya post some pics of your setup?

Did your alt come with a dual pulley?

Thanks

here are a few pics. with it sitting in the bracket w/o the bolt obviously, since i am holding the bolt "in front" of it. the alt is sitting all the way forward in the bracket. you can see the gap that has to be filled with the washers/spacers. there really isn't any access to put the spacers in the back, so the alt would not be sitting as it is now, but actually would be "pushed back" further away from the fan etc. the alt does have a dual pulley, although it APPEARS the belt would go on the front pulley regardless of the location of the spacers........i think.

I left them washers out, it lined up fine without them, and its not moving around at all, just looked like more crap to loose ;)

belt goes on the front pulley.

well it got it installed and left out the spacers. well i put one up front to get it lined up as best i could. i hope it stays put like Pimp's has....it was a kind of pain to get it tensioned right, but the pry bar did the trick. probably should have been about an hour job, but took me more as i was doing this for the first time. it seemed to work out pretty good though.

this thread and Pimp's photos helped out. thanks!

oh yeah.....drove it around with the heater on, lights on and used the blinkers too! never dropped below 12, when before it would have been dipping into the red!

yeah loosing the adjuster kinda pissed me off, but older cruisers use the pry bar method as stock..........so I guess its OK. Pretty tight fit for the belt with the alt mounted isn't it? easier to put the belt on 1st then mount the alt. Shame the alt can't move more towards the valve cover....but the hose stops it.

also watch out with the pry bar so you don't bugger up what ever is between the block and the alt....I forget what it is but I remember thinking I could bust something ;)

This time of year I am really glad to have the big alt, running the heater, wipers, AC, defost, lights, ect ect...........really puts a drain on the stock alt...the MG almost never drops volts :)

yeah i had to put the belt on pretty early on in the install, or there is no way i could have done it. there is a hose that the pry bar was kind of squishing, but it didn't cut it or damage it from what i saw. once i got over whether to use the spacers and how many to use etc, then the install went pretty quickly.

it was actually a bigger pain to get the old alternater off. the main bolt on the bottom of it was really long and i could not get it all of the way out as it hit the fan shroud. i ended up having to use a bolt cutter to cut the end off, so i could get it out. figuring out what to do on that issue seemed to take up most of my time.

thanks again....you da pimp!!! :D

on the stock alt, sounds like someone somehow put the bolt in the wrong way, the nut should be on the front(rad) side, the bolt goes in thru the backside.

glas it worked out for you. Keep an eye on the new alt, if its gonna have any problems its gonna happen in the 1st few weeks........mine went up in smoke within 2 weeks......the new one has been fine for a year.
