I know a bunch of tests have been done on MG's and most are putting out stock ratings at idle and only marginally higher at high RPM's.

Might check to see if there is an alternator builder somewhere in Fallon and see what they say. If not there, try somewhere in Reno.

What are you needing the big power for?

Gotta love it...I guess in the world of easily swallowed slick marketing campaigns and false promises...oh wait I wasn't talking about the Presidential election I was talking about...

Go figure.

Well wanting the big power cause stock isnt cutting it anymore at idle with the lights and heater on its pulling the battery down more than it should also planning on adding more lighting to it hence the dual Batts and bigger Alt on both the 40 and the 80

What's the rated output of a stock 60 & 80 alternator? My 100 is 140A and does just fine...

Unless you have already added a bunch of electrical accessories the stock Alt shouldn't have a problem. I think I would correct whatever problem you have first then go from there.

On the 40 the stock alt out put is 40 Amps. You can easily increase that by going to a 90 Amp GM alternator. Issues with this mod are that the stock Ampmeter will fry so you have to by pass it, and the alt has an internal regulator so you need an ignition hot wire to make it work. Other than that it will bolt right up.

Again if the lights dim or the heater slows down at idle you have another problem. The stock FJ40 Alt will carry the full load with ease. In fact you would have to add a lot of extra lights and stuff before you see any problems. I ran Hella lights and an aircraft Landing light on my '70 with no issues. So far I haven't seen any need to upgrade the alt on my 40 even running the 8274 Winch.

Well theres several ways to do this but gonna have to move a few things first now its just deciding on what to move hehe but will keep you guys posted on this as i go along with the set up
