I was talking via text with a sales rep at Toyota of Cool Springs in Nashville re a 2019 Land Cruiser. They have three on their lot. He was checking on prices for me. An hour later, he called me and said Toyota had put a “no sale” hold on all new Land Cruisers on dealer lots due to the latest recall. At Cool Springs Toyota, that means they won’t be able to sell one until late January when the service update is completed to remedy the issue with all of the inventory. Have any of you heard this yet?

Yes. There’s a recall thread already.

I just talked to the owner of a Toyota dealership who just made a 2019 his personally owned vehicle. Perhaps his decision to make that one his was partially promoted by the inability to sell it yet... Don’t know. No fix yet in the pipeline.

Got it. Sorry for the duplicate. The sales rep I talked to said he was told they would be back for sale as of late January. That may be speculation too. He also said the hold applied to any used Land Cruisers (2008 and newer; 200 Series) on Toyota / dealer lots saying a dealer was risking a law suit if they sold one and an accident involving the issue occurred.

seatbelt tension sensor recall and fix won't be till feb 19, at least!!!!

OTOH—Unless you’re chomping at the bit to buy a ‘19...I think Toyota’s lawyers are the only ones who need to lose any sleep over it.

its for 2008-2019 Land Cruisers, call your local toyota dealership to run your VIN to see if your affected

I understand. Just saying that after 11 years on the road, my rig isn’t suddenly more likely to start throwing airbag error messages just because they found another way to avoid lawsuits 11 years in. :hillbilly:

Airbags themselves are fine. It’s that a sensor can tell the system no one is in the passenger seat. But my understanding from what I’ve read/chatted with owner about is that if your auto-tensioner is tightening on your passenger when you slam on the brakes...it’s working fine.

I have zero official anything on that. Just saying it’s probably not impending doom, or Toyota would be telling us to stop driving our rigs. ;)

PS. The Toyota dealership owner yesterday happily drove off in his brand new ‘19 to go pick up his kids when we were done meeting...despite talk of the recall.

I’ve not received clarification yet. Does anyone know if this recall / service bulletin / sale stop applies to 2008-2019 Lexus LX570’s too?

Follow Up: a sales rep just informed me it applies to Lexus LX570’s too.

UPDATE: Another Toyota dealer just told me the stop sale is only on select new 2019’s... YET, you can buy a used LX570, just not as certified AND you have to sign a legal waiver.

I read the fax that was sent in from Toyota at a dealer an hour before a deal I was making was blocked. The factory ordered stop sale on all Tacoma and land Cruisers new and used until further notice.

And this info on the Toyota Owners site:

Here's the link to the FAQ doc - NOTE: You may qualify for a free loaner (See Q7) until the fix is complete:

HTH

In the link it states:

"Q6a:
Are there any other Lexus/Toyota/Scion vehicles covered by this Safety Recall in the U.S.?
A6a:
Yes, there are certain 2008 -2019 Lexus LX 570 vehicles covered by this Safety Recall."

What does it mean "certain 2008 - 2019 Lexus LX 570 vehicles" are covered by this recall? Are some 08-19 LX 570s not affected?

Yes, I’d like to know as well. And I feel like I’ll hear more specifics tomorrow as I’m looking at two used 2016 LX570’s and a used 2016 LC right now. All are on Lexus/Toyota lots. I know one of the Lexus dealers told me yesterday he may be able to sell me his, yet he couldn’t L/Certify it under the terms of the service bulletin until, likely, March. I’d also have to sign a legal waiver re the passenger side belt tensioner acknowledging a remedy hadn’t been applied and I assumed all the risk re the airbags not working if I allowed someone to ride in the front passenger seat before it was fixed. He and the other two dealers said they’d talk with Lexus/Toyota corporate and let me know exact parameters for selling the ones I’m looking at.

Wow.
Never seen one where they hand you a loaner with no end date known. Means they are more worried after all. That’s a ton of $ for them...
The airbag recall for the IS was the same. Comes with strings though. They rent you a car (not a Lexus) and you must park your Lexus (they do not store it for you) and not drive it (they record mileage). If you drive too many miles they “fine” you for the cost of the rental. My rental was a POS and I was sick if it in a week. After a month I turned it back in because Inwas moving out of state. It was still several months later before the airbag was replaced.

My airbags and seatbelts worked fine when we smoked a deer at 80 mph....jus' sayin'. This recall may be why it took so long to get replacement seat belts for the repair.

Honda did this with some Civic owners as well as sending a wrecker to pick up the cars if the owner had any concerns about driving with the recalled airbags. But they turned the cars around pretty quick

I had an '07 ES350 that was also in this airbag recall. Yeah, I could have gotten a rental loaner, but the rules were just a PITA. I just kept driving it. Then I sold the car to a friend 5/17 before they had the remedy available (I told him all about it), and he STILL hasn't had the recall done (despite me warning him several times).

The people whining about it on ClubLexus was ridiculous. Really turned me off of that place.
