Alarm + remote starter recommendations?

Planning to park the LX outside the garage this winter and would like to get a solid alarm and remote starter. OEM remote starter is always a (cheap & simple) option, but I'd like a 2-way remote and longer range.

Has anyone installed one? Which brand & model? Your thoughts on it? What did the install cost? Are the installation instructions clear enough in that they can be done as a DIY (I have plenty of electrical experience, but have never touched an alarm/starter)?
 
I had a Compustar on my 2016 4Runner. It had two way remotes with a two mile range. Last week I called the same shop to get the same installed in the 2013 Land Cruiser. I was quoted $450 installed with two remotes included. Haven't made the appointment yet so I can't offer how it might work. The one way remote option was $350.

I'll be watching this thread too.
 
I have a Compustar on my GX460. Cant speak of the alarm but its a 2way 2mile remote. Only thing that is annoying with Toyota & Lexus is if you have a remote start installed, once the door is open it shuts off for safety reasons and you have to restart. I dont know if it can be bypassed.
 
Compustar does sound like the industry standard. I'm trying to find some reputable local shops to do the install and will then call around for quotes.

I do know that the LX will shut off when the door is opened. I believe this is because the remote start cannot do (what they call) a "takeover" procedure. Annoying, but I'll learn to live with it.

They do have a dealer finder on their site if you check that out.

From what I recall when I was shopping around. The takeover couldnt be done with Viper and a few others as well.
 
When I purchased My rig it came with a compustar exactly the same as my work van which has remote start doors locking unlocking unfortunately I cannot get the lx to start with the remote maybe something to do with the programming but I can personally vouch for compustar as being very very good and reliable
