Airing down

Um,

It's NOT. You see I get to change the tyres....:flipoff2:

About 30 years ago or so I was on a hunting trip with my dad and my uncle. I was driving and they were riding in the camper. They had me "stop" for a minute and my dad wandered around the rear of the truck. My uncle shouted out to him. "I KNOW who is going to change THAT tire"...:flipoff2:

Hayes-I've done a bunch of driving in Canyonlands (Needles and Island in the Sky) and generally the road conditions will be pretty good. I doubt you will need to air down for traction purposes. For comfort, however, I strongly reccomend you air down to reduce the harsh ride on the washboard and other uneven surfaces. 20-25 lbs should be fine with those tires. If you have a heavy load, like family and camp gear, then air to the upper end of that range.

I would not go out there without a way to air up, and a tire plug kit. The compressor that Beowulf mentions, is a really great unit, even at the $59.99 regular price. I got one at PepBoys Make sure you have a good spare tire.

You will have a blast in Canyonlands, just be mindful you'll be a long way from help and gas. On most of the roads you can stay in high range which will improve your fuel mileage considerably.

I have always wanted to really explore the Maze district of Canyonlands. Let us know how you do, and what the "must see" sights are.

Thanks for the input everyone.
Coincidentally, I found and confirmed the availability of one Checker version of the cheap $25 but good compressor (MV-50) at an unamed store in my general area. That's within my spontaneous purchase budget, so I'll be picking up that little sucker tomorrow.
Looks like I'll be able to experiment a bit.

I'll probably just go down to a more comfy 25 lbs for the Maze trip, though.

Having the air up covered, I would try a little lower, you will be surprised how much difference a couple of pounds makes.

Do they have more than one MV50?

Sounds like the $25 MV50 is next to extinct in the stores.

Nope. You found one didn't you? :D

Rumour has it that a Checker in ND has 11. Maybe some 'Mudder in the area could check it out and put another group buy together. They're still out there for the lucky ones.
