Have the engine out, cleaning it up for paint etc. Found two small pinholes at the forward end of the air rail and one small line from the main rail to the #6 cylinder fitting partially cracked. Cleaned up real nice, and would like to repair versus try to pull all the fittings and rail! Anyone ever have good luck with brazing or JB weld? I can't imagine things getting too hot, I dare not MIG on such thin metal! Open for all ideas

I doubt that JB weld or any other epoxy will stand up to temeratures in excess of 300F for long. You might try the ceramic muffler putty. Brazing would work, but by the time you clean the rust off you might have a bigger hole to fill. You might start looking for a good used one.

Thanks for the reply....JB weld (just checked it out) advertised as good to go up to 600 degrees F. Isn't the AI rail ambient air pumped into the exhaust near the valves to promote hotter burn / more complete burn of the exhaust gases? I'm looking for a rail, can weld with MIG but have never brazed...don't even know the metal composition to buy the correct brazing rod. If I get an extra rail I might try it, if I screw the pooch I can always replace with the spare (I;m sure that's easy...not)

Dave, you might want to try LabMetal - its good up to 1000 degrees. Here's the website for the product http://www.alvinproducts.com/Products/Products.asp?ID=2
I've used the standard LabMetal but not the high heat variety. I do know a guy that repairs small engines and he uses it regularly to fill, redrill and tap new bolt holes etc. You might want to give it a try. I have a Mig and that metal is too thin for me to try tacking a filler weld. Good luck, Tom
