Ok, I posted this last summer I believe. I thought I had this solved by tightening the belts but it has gotten worse. The AC compressor looks like it is locking up causing the belt to slip which results in a horrible loud screaming/squealing noise. I put a video I took last year from it, this is the same now, except that the wheel slowly moving is now locked up when I have the AC on.

It seems to work ok when the vehicle is coolish when I first start it, but it's near 100 here and after I have driven around a bit it starts squealing and blowing hot.

I had the coolant checked and things are where they should be on the refridgerant level. Time for a new compressor?

possibly the A/C compressor clutch

It appears from the video that the clutch is partially engaging. Check voltage first to the clutch. There could be a voltage drop. However; I am thinking that this could be fixed by removing some of the shims between the clutch and the "compressor hub?". You will need to remove the clutch. This can be done without losing your freon. I replaced my clutch a few years ago and there is a write-up on it and others as well.
Maybe someone else can chime in to confirm.

Also look at the adjusting bearing to the left of the compressor. Mike

97 LX: My A/C started making a squealing, screeching noise yesterday. I had been driving it all afternoon running errands to my local Napa and the landscaping yard. I was running the A/C for most of the time I was out, all good.

When I got home I was troubleshooting some issues with my new head unit, turned on the LX, and a really bad screeching noise started with the AC on. I let the rig cool off for a while, went back out and fired it up a couple hours later and the video below shows what was going on. Does that sound like a bad bearing?

The idler pulley was replaced with all new OEM belts in April.

Hey mate, did you ever get a proper diagnosis and fix for your issue?

I have similar sound and basically same thing as OP posted in his video.

My vehicle is 1999 HZJ105R (Aussie version) with 1HZ.

I am going to take it apart when I get a chance and I'll post photos or video back here for posterity. I could make another post, but I think because OP has same symptoms as me, and there was never a posted solution, that me posting it will help others in the future.
