I drive a Land Cruiser 200 with European Spec (AHC). I use the beefed up AHC dampers of the diplomatic armored cars, who can handle till 5.1 tons.

I have equiped it with the TRD 17" rims and 285/70/R17 Cooper STTs, what is a nice setup.

Till now 60`000km`s at the clock,, many of them offroad (transafrica, island) and heavy loaded.... No problems.

Sounds like you took care of any potential unsprung weight problem.

The weight of the tyres itself are not an issue.

Travelling extended with 270l Fuel, 85l Water, Food, Gear and Equipment for two weeks, and some mods (Frontbar, Winch) - brings up some weight. Also when I just carry one spare tyre.

Fully equiped it was arround 3.8tons.. That is 500kg more than the original suspension is rated for - that was the reason to take the beefed up AHC suspension.

The BR6 Armored Landcruiser 200 or LX570 with AHC Suspension are rated for 5.1 tons. So the car is capable to carry the weight - but the suspension has to be made for the weight. Just because of tyres - I wouldnt care about the suspension.

Ding ding ding ding! We have a winner.

People trippin about 1% total weight of the vehicle... On a Toyota no less. On the land cruiser no less. Let's move on already.

Great info.

There is a pretty big difference between the weight of the vehicle and 'unsprung weight' which is what they were talking about, unsprung being anything mounted 'outside' the suspension if you will. Like wheels, tires, brakes, axels, etc. A small increase in unsprung weight can potentially have quite a large effect on the feel of the vehicle on the road.

Heavier wheels and tires wont absorb bumps as readily as a lighter setup, transferring more of the bump or shimmy or shake onto the suspension and the rest of the vehicle.

Also increases wear on the suspension.

Newbie question

My new to me 2013 lx. I have it set to lower when it parked (ahc). Is rear suppose to be two inches higher than front.

That is the one feature I wish my LC had. My parents are getting older and we use their LX when we all go out for the kneeling low suspension made.

How do you program it to kneel automatically, I would love to set that for them.

The LX has button similar to this one here that automatically lowers height when powering off that allows for easier ingress/egresss, it’s the button on the lower left side of the steering wheel.

My year 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser has 520000 + km on the clock never had any problem with AHC system touch wood .

What is actually wrong with your AHC system. I never play around with it mostly keep it in neutral. Can be a easy fix .
