Hello y'all,

Long time lurker recent member. I'm looking into purchasing my first Land Cruiser. I've been looking for 6 months now. Im ready to pull the trigger. I was hoping I could get some advice from you guys. I would love any feedback. Thank you all so much!

I saw this fj40 in my local Craigslist ad. It seems to be the best for for my budget.

ALL the smog equipment has been removed from that truck, you will have a HELL OF A TIME getting past the smog check (76 and newer vehicles) and it will cost you a lot of money to find those parts if the owner does not have them, let alone getting them working again. That's not even the stock carb which you MUST have to pass smog in Los Angeles (I'm in SFV).

I've been seeing that truck for sale for a number of months, now. The price has dropped about $4k since I first saw it for sale.

Also, it has been repainted.

Other than that, it looks solid...

Thanks Spike Strip!

I appreciate your advice. I'll email him about the smog equipment. If you know of anyone in the Los Angeles or even California range selling a decent rig I'd love to know about it.

Thanks again!

It's too bad Cali doesn't have a classic vehicle exemption like Las Vegas does. This FJ is in my old stomping grounds, no doubt it hit the trails that I learned to wheel on. Looks like suspension was done, not sure what springs though. Guaranteed it was driven on those oil field trails just North of their house. I honestly think you could do better though, it might take a $1000 in shipping to bring it in from somewhere in the USA though.

Thanks oakweb!

Do you suggest I look for land cruisers in other states and have it shipped? California land cruisers do seem to be on the higher end of the spectrum. I'm surprised to see certain FJ'S going for what they do in other states. The only thing is I'm a student and can't really afford to fly to other states just to check out a car. I'm just trying to be patient.

Thanks again!

Yes! there was a time when I scoured Craiglist everyday for them, there are still deals out there.. just have to keep at it. Generally I looked for Original Paint, not too modified, 76 and newer, no rust. But those are pretty scarce now.
