Advice on FJ43

43 were never made with a hard top, they imported them with a soft or no top option. They had two companies that made hard tops for them in Columbia. Mpr and another company, I've been told mpr tops are better than the other.
You are correct. MPR and Fibres are two of the most common hard tops in COLOMBIA.

Hello,

In fact the FJ43 was available as a soft top only. So did the BJ43. Both the BJ44 and the BJ46 were available with either a hard top or a soft top.

My usual concern: for that price the restorer could have included a heater and/or A/C.

The tub and top look non-factory. That tool compartment is definitely custom made. Again, for that price, an aftermarket tub and a separate top would have been nice.

The documents say "carpado," Spanish for soft top. So does the VIN tag.

Wiring is not OEM.

Bezel should be square.

The 400 kg max load decal is JDM only. Out of place in a South American gasser in my book.

My guess: this 43 was rolled and the PO went creative with the body.

I would run from this truck.

I agree w/ @JuanJ ... I'd stay away. When I exchanged emails w/ the guy he said he still had gas in the tank from when he took delivery of the truck. Who pays a hefty sum for frame-off resto truck and just parks it? Something's up.

In agree with this one, but

o_O these things happen .......

I would have sworn somewhere I have seen FJ43's in Japan with hardtops. I have only seen soft tops from South America.

I am sure someone at The FJ Company could settle this question. They do many FJ43's.

Hello,

There were a few "half hard top" FJ43s built in the late 1960s/early 1970s (not sure exactly when) with a hard top over the driver and passenger seats. The rear had a soft top.

It is also possible that someone swapped a BJ44/46 hard top into a soft top FJ43.

Random question but hoping someone knows what I am talking about. About 3 months ago there was an FJ40 for sale (hemmings, ebay, or Craigslist) that had wood strips in the ceiling. It was obviously custom and it was incredible. I’ve since tried to locate that vehicle again and have had no luck. Did anyone else see this?

Oh wow I thought that was a before shot I was curious to see how they detached that and how it turned out. Definitely a deal breaker for me!

That would be a complete deal breaker for me also. Being able to remove the top is one of the things what makes a 40 a 40. Every year I can’t wait to get that top off.

Any pics of your truck available that you can show us ?

Pm send

a 43 with hard top welded to body, drum brakes and a bunch of random cheap wiring for $35k is not a steal in 2018 or 2024

this is a steal

Oh I didn't know that much about it. Yeah I guess it's not too great. I wouldn't want to have the top welded on and all that crap. But that link you sent to me that's not a steal for $85,000. That seems ridiculous. That's just my opinion though.
