Hey everyone, looking for a little advice because I’m torn on what to do.

About a week and a half ago, I had a little run-in with one of Walmart’s concrete light poles while pulling out of the parking lot. Unfortunately, the pole won. 😂

I filed the insurance claim, and they’ve offered $4,000 toward the repairs. My local body shop quoted me around $7,000 after finding some additional damage.

For some context, it’s a 2008 with 204,000 miles. I love the thing, but I’m trying to decide if it’s worth putting the money into it at this point.

Would you fix it and keep driving it, fix it and trade/sell it, or take the insurance money, trade it in as-is, and put that money toward another LX570 (a little newer)?

Just curious what you guys would do in my shoes. Appreciate any advice!

From experiences of others on here, I think you should not take the first insurance offer. They seem to always low-ball and then fight increases during negotiation. If you have a solid quote from a body shop that found additional work needed, get the insurance to pony up. That’s what insurance is for! IMHO it’s definitely worth fixing if it’s otherwise well taken care of.

Yes, I would expect the insurance to cover it all when they see the shop estimate. Regarding whether you keep it or not is up to you. If you love it, why would you get rid of it? If you don’t, sell it. But would not sell it as a problem someone else needs to remedy, and hold on to the photos as it shows it was not a major collision - though it was a pricey one!

Fix it!

Obtain other quotes. Compare insurance estimate to those quotes to determine what insurance is missing and challenge insurance.
