AAL's are kinda a band-aide fix, IMO. Yeah, you'll get a little lift out of them, but the ride will still be really terrible. My son had the same problem in the back of his '89 4Runner, his springs were almost flat and he only had about 3/4" left of travel. He ended up getting a set of springs from Downey.
 
I don't think the ride is that terrible with the aal. My Downeys rode just about as stiff as the Rancho aal and after 15yrs the aal is still holding lift after much abuse.......the Downey springs, not so much after just 5 yrs.

It is hard to beat the price of Downey springs but if you carry full camping loads and 'wheel more than once a season, don't expect the springs to last. You can also look into having a spring shop re-arch your springs. I had them done to my Downey springs and cost $100. I talked with a guy that had his stock '95 springs done to match his front lift and they have worked out great for him.
