I’ve always found 80s AC system to be top notch. I also live in a hot climate. It’s not uncommon for me to have move the temp slider towards the middle.

@HHR137 evacuate the system and swap the expansion valve if you haven’t already.
That’s exactly my plan. Seems relatively straightforward. Looks like it’s connected to the condenser underneath the glove box. I already took the whole thing apart to clean it so now that I know there’s a little valve there should be pretty easy.

May as well swap the dryer while the system is open too. It’s cheap and very easy.

Update on this, not sure if this was smart or not but after cleaning the expansion valve, the low pressure line was still freezing up toward the firewall. I noticed a curvy pipe coming off the low pressure line seemed to have a crimp in it. That was either intensional or accidental. Since I wasn’t sure I just decided to take some pliers and straighten it out. I was pretty careful and I don’t believe I punctured it but time we will tell. However, immediately after I removed the crimp, the AC was ice cold and the lines I t frost over. Again probably not the right way but it worked. I figured I’d wing since worst that would happen is I brake the line and get a new one. Anyway maybe this will help someone.
