Noticed today that my selector is stuck on windshield vent no matter which mode its selected. The selector moves freely with a solid click for each mode, but isnt changing. Does anyone have a diagram of the connections before i dig into it. I fear a plastic part may have given up the ghost.

Highly suggest you contact Rob. He has a lot of experience with Toyota's heater control boxes.

X2. Getting into the controls is a real major PITA

Be very careful. Parts are generally NLA for those things so don't break it too badly

Additional damage is actually possible so be very slow and methodical when you tear into it.

understood, be careful, dont use a hammer, dont weld next to it, keep children away. If they are similar to navara and patrol control boxes, they should be pretty easy to troubleshoot. Parts is another story.....

well that was easy, control cable popped loose for that lever. Page AC-47 from repair manual shows how to adjust. I threw some silicon grease on the swing arms and butterflies, it was pretty stiff, which probably caused the control cable to come loose when I tried to adjust.

Rob actually fabricates some of the internal parts if you have issues in the future. (One of his many talents). :)

Did it come off the dash lever or the vent box lever? I have attempted to remove the dash controls once and found that there was not enough room for me to get my hands in to disconnect everything.

Dash Lever, i tried to take pics but it was dark and even with the LEDs, the underdash pics did not turn out

Wow, I am impressed. When I was trying to take the panel out of the 73 I could not get either my hands or any tools into position to release the cables much less attach them.

Glad you were able to fix it

well i didnt want to admin it, but yes... i have small hands.... and had to take half the damn dash apart as well.

This is good to know. While i did fix it, i think some damage was done to an internal piece, maybe bent or otherwise from when it first came undone.... moving from windshield defrost to the one next to it is a little tight, but then the other modes glide pretty easy. I cant tell if there is dirt making the transition rough, or if there is a more systemic issue. It will do for now, but may hit up rob once i get to the front of the truck in my "overhauling"

You must be living a charmed life. Most of the time the selectors become very stiff and the user looses patience and forces them which in turn breaks the little plastic do-dads that are no longer available.

i have a small 3d printer that im just getting into. I wonder if it will be worth toying around with some of these

Since your Troopy is in North Carolina, @ca18sean has one in Florida and @southerncruiser62 has one in South Carolina, the logical meeting place to compare notes is somewhere in Georgia. (Perhaps Southern Georgia).
I'll buy the first round. :)

I had a similar issue, tore into the dash only to find out all was well with the world as far as the selector switch was concerned. I was updating my stereo anyways so spending a little extra time in there was a good thing. Followed the selector switch cable down to the driver footwell (LHD) and found the cable end which looks like a spring had popped out of the linkage C clip. I pushed the linkage all the way up and back, pressed the spring end back in with the selector all the way to the left and everything works as it should now.

Picture showing spring style end of push/pull cable circled in red. You can see here it isn’t pressed in to the C clip on the linkage arm.
