I meant that the pulley on the compressor is super loose. The thin ring that the belt rides on seems like it is about to fall off. The AC works well, just makes a lot of noise. Does anyone know if I can just replace the clutch or is a whole new compressor needed? Rockauto has a UAC clutch for $76.

Lets review, if the clutch is good, can just replace the bearing, if the clutch is stuffed, can replace it, if the compressor is worn, best to replace the whole thing. Not sure about that brand of clutch, the coil pictured is the Dodge type...

Even when I squint really hard, cant see your parts across the interwebs, so until you get it apart, all of us are guessing. :hillbilly:

My 80 has the same issue, the idler was replaced by the PO, but the A/C pulley wobbles when rotated, aggressively.

I was able to get the front cover thing off of the A/C compressor, but was unable to find / see the snap ring to get the compressor pulley off.

Any pointers would be appreciated, If I cannot get it off, backup plan is to have a shop drain the refrigerant, and then I would pull the whole compressor out and work on it on a bench.
Edit:
Local shop wants $100 just to drain the system :(

(Wish Tools were here now...).

I've had the same issue for a very long time and A/C still works; (take off A/C belt and she's quieter); no squealing yet.

It's easier to just replace the A/C compressor when it's needed.

Remember the PAG oil!

Hmmmm,
Just looked on rock auto, a brand new Denso (DENSO 4711166)
Is only $200
Might just do that instead of draining the system and putzing about getting a new $40 bearing in and being done with it.

I guess the very worst case would be is if the bearing seized, the belt would get burnt up and then break?
Might just run it as is for a while :hillbilly:
