Very cool too. One thing though. Does this antenna need a ground plane to operate well?
Most antennas need that ground plane to provide a counter-poise in order to let the antenna radiate properly. Might also effect the match.
I just had a few guys on my team at work spend a few weeks with customers that claimed our new data modems for cops didn't work well as they should. Turned out they were mounting the antenna correctly for testing and were missing the ground plane. Huge difference.
Just a thought, cool install though. My wife would be in the same boat.

Is there a spell check on this Web Site ? I usually cut from word and use the spell check from there ( English UK ) but occasionaly just put it strait down. I am dyslexic and somtimes the spell check does not even recognise the word I have choisen. I am also not that familiar with malipulating the format when replying

I SWRd it today and got 1.4 at both ends, so I am happy. I use a Cobra all in the mike jobber and they can't easily be tuned up, so for now it talks about 1 mile clearly. Thats all I need. The ground plane is good being that the mirror housing is aluminum and bolted to the steel door. After mounting, the first thing I did was to OHM it to check for ground through the coax. The load is above the roof line so it talks good to.Riley said:

Absolutely correct. The wire routing is a PITA but obviously can be done. I bought a smaller than normal length of pre-maid coax, cut off one end and ran the wire from the inside out so that the screw on connecter that was left will screw into the CB. I used regular ring terminals to supply both leads to their respected areas. I grounded at the bolt holding the L bracket and the shielded wire to the antenna bolt via the insulated washers. It wasn't that hard after figuring out where I wanted it. After pulling apart the mirror, I noticed how relatively easy it would be to do it.

I found it easier to mount radio by aux tank gauge and roof lights above windscreen, and drill a hole in the roof, that way I can also judge how close fallen trees across the track are to the roof by the noise the aerial makes when it hits them

Have you had any trouble with the infamous vibrating mirror syndrome that is all too common? What measures did you take upon reinstallation of the mirror above and beyond the stock method if any? I need to pull mine apart and the antenna mounting intrigues me... It might double well as a GPS mount.

Just a suggestion for mounting the CB. Don't remember which model I have but it's a slim Uniden of the $35 variety. I mounted it vertically on the drivers side of the center console. (Between the E-brake boot and the console.) Didn't want to drill holes in the console so I used high strength pre-cut 3"x4" velcro. I've never had a problem with it going anywhere but can remove it quickly if I need to. The controls are within easy reach and it doesn't interfere with the e-brake.

What I found as a part of a vibrating mirror is the way the glass mounts into the housing. The 1 screw that holds the glass in comes loose and allows the mirror to move around in the housing. look up from the bottom of the housing and you will see a hole for a screwdriver to fit. Up inside is a phillips head screw that on my truck was loose on both mirrors, causing them to vibrate.White Shark said:

As far as GPS and Cb antenna goes, If you have room, great, but getting both antenna cables through the pivot hole and door sheetmetal will be interesting. By running through the pivot, the mirror can be folded in and out as normal, not affecting the antenna or wiring.
