Either way, it's pretty clear from the type and location of the grease that his head gasket's toast as well....

That is just mean Doug....:D

Jim- So you are now doing PHH on site installs? How much to swing through Abilene? :grinpimp:

AUGH... :crybaby: Nothing like a axel rebuild to start your day!!

Why do these thing always happen when you don't plan for it!

I've done a few knuckle jobs on the FJ62..so This should not be too bad.

Headed out to the garge to take inventory of what I need to order...and tear down the knuckle this am.

I'll report back later!

p.s. only 300 more poppers to sell to fund this project...

There is a Mini Truck guy here that helped me with my first birf job. He was amazed at how similar the 80 was to his 1980's mini trucks. The ABS is one of those things that isn't the same. ;) Keep the positive attitude, it will help the process. For example - "Now I KNOW everything in the front axle is as good as new..." It is this new thing I am trying, being an optimist. :D So far so good. (I got a hail damage estimate for my truck of $2900.00 yesterday! YEAAHHH ARB, LIFT, and Tires here I come!)

Mark, this is kinda off subject, but just thought i would say it since you brought up a point about "why do these things happen when you don't plan on it".

I was just telling my friend last night that over the past 8months to a year i have been between jobs and pretty much flat broke. Barely getting by. I commented that i have felt very lucky and honored that my 80 has not left me stranded one time, and has started each and every time that i have needed it to. I couldn't afford fixes right now, and this truck is doing as it was intended, lasting. For that i'm grateful. I'll bet (knock-on-wood) as soon as i get back on my feet and comfortable, something will break on her.

This is what the tip should look like:

Well,
I have not had a chance to take apart the knuckle down yet..but so far parts on on the way..

Used ABS sensor - $100
OEM Knuckle kit and bearings. - $300
Beer - PRICELESS!!!

Other items needed, per Doug..
IdahoDoug Head gasket DVD (just in case) - $12
Better Camera for Pictures - $300

I sure hope I don't need a new spindle.. I know of a wrecked 40th maybe I can steel the part from.. :) :)

I also made a insurance claim on my wife's mini van today...it will just about cover my costs..so much for spedning the funds on fun bling bling items.

And I'lll have to sell a bunch of my new product I have comming out.. Here is a mock up and shamless plug, will have them next week for sale!

I had my mechanic do mine and when I showed him the info he said the same thing.

It was kinda cool actually to see the same basic design was good enough then...and now. I know the debates about the birf, but still is an amazing peice of engineering.

Does the factory sensor have a grey disconnect like that on top? I don't remember a provison for disconnecting it from the harness though it may be a year to year diffo and I'm not sure which of my 80s I'm thinking of.

The ABS sensors on my '97 have the quick-disconnect from the harness as pictured, so it probably is one of those incremental changes.
