I have had my ABS light on since I bought my rig in June of last year, I was finally able to figure out how to pull the code and I get code 43
from the FSM;
43
(DI–205)
Malfunction in deceleration sensor
 Deceleration sensor
Wire harness for deceleration sensor circuit

Anyone ever pull the same code? What did you do about it? The sensor is $725 to replace or it may just be the wiring harness which I don't know what that means, a bad wire or something? I dunno. Any help would be appreciated.

This is an old thread, but I had the same problem code and this is what I did:

Find the part number for your deceleration sensor. My, 1997, is 89441-12020. Found one used and working condition on eBay for $25. Then:

Disconnect battery before starting
1. Remove plastic knob from low gear level by unscrewing it
2. Remove plastic cover in front, 2 Phillips screws on each side, covering transmissions lever and low gear level
3. Disconnect power and 2nd buttons
4. With cover removed, use 10mm socket to remove 2 nuts holding sensor bracket
5. Disconnect sensor plug
6. Remove zip ties holding cable down
7. Turn bracket upside down, remove 2 Phillips screws holding sensor to bracket.
8. Disconnect sensor plug from bracket.
9. Reconnect everything back in reverse of removal
10. Make offering to your deity so the sensor does work and the fault wasn't something else.

AND..... I must have sacrificed the wrong chicken, 60 miles after the change the ABS light came up again. Will get codes, and work on wheel sensors next.

I have the same code and a spare sensor that I was going to swap in but something told me it wasn't the sensor as my ABS light came on for code 43 right after using my lockers. Is there a master reset procedure for the ABS module? I looked through the manual and only found a basic code clear.

I think the master reset may have to be done via the system computer. Mine went off when I had to swap in a new battery. The only reset I know about is the one on the FSM, connecting 2 points in the diagnostic unit inside the engine, and then with ignition on pushing brake a number of times within 5 seconds. Its all on the FSM, I haven't tried that but will do first, then drive another 60 miles and see if it comes back.

I haven't used the lockers, so not sure if that was the root cause of mine. Installing the new sensor was pretty simple though.

Mine still came after I got another sensor so I just pulled the bulb. I have to try this reset method. Been almost 3 years, hopefully the reset is it!

I stopped in Scott Clark Toyota today to get a few tools to mount spare tire under truck, and was thinking that maybe this is a diagnostic that a dealer needs to do. But first will try to remove and clean all wheel sensors as I also had code 33 and 31. Truck brakes great otherwise.

After doing the FSM reset, the ABS light remained on, code 43 only now. Drove to work round trip yesterday, ABS on all the time. Parked truck and this morning, no ABS Light. WTF is going on? Still using sensor bought from EBay.

Today I replaced the ABS ECU with a used one, $55 from TLS Auto Recycling in Rancho Cordoba. Afterwards, drove 22 miles and so far no ABS lights. I would have gotten a light by now with the "original" unit, so hoping this was it.

After driving about 80 miles, ABS light came back again. So ECU was not it. Will read codes later and see if 43 still there. Sensor was replaced already, so not sure what else it could be if still 43

I checked the code today, and it is 43. No idea what to do next as I have changed the sensor and the abs ecu. The only difference is now I get a solid constant abs light. With the old ecu the abs light would turn off by itself and come back without any frequency.

The only other thing, the Power button on the center console doesn't do anything, many it's right over the sensor. Will take that appart next weekend and look at any wire problems. Otherwise, can't think of a thing to do.

Could be oversized tires causing it. Not so much a problem with old ABS systems, but I know from experience after I helped a busy of mine lift his 99 taco that he had this issue. Wheel speed sensors telling the abs comp that the decel sensor was wrong and the abs comp was unable to reconcile things, we installed a yellow box speed recalibrate like I have in my cruiser and it went away. Just a thought.

Mine was there when I bought it a few months ago, tires where stock 265 I think. What calibration did you though?

I used a yellow box v5 with a harness specifically for the land cruiser speed sensor. It plugs in between the speed sensor and stock harness, the yellow box allows you to recalibrate the speed signal as it leaves the sensor, that way the speedo and TCM run correctly. I did mine by matching it to my in dash gps and by having my brother pace me in my Altima to compare it against my GPS. Reads dead in with the speed traps around here. If you're still having the issue and you replaced the sensor and abs control module then you should check your wheel speed sensor plugs and the harness plugs at the body to ensure you don't have corrosion and possibly shorting of the circuit happening. A short somewhere in the scheme of things can cause a bad read pretty easily.
