I have 495,000 miles on my 2008 V8 4x4 4Runner and the transmission has been starting to slip a little. It's enough that it's time to start researching the replacement.

What are people doing to beef these up? I am interested in shorter shifts with an upgraded valve body etc.

I have found Rodney's upgraded valve body for locking out the torque converter in different gears as the only one so far.

Anyone heard of these guys?

Did you ever service your transmission? What sort of life did it have (highway, towing etc)

100% fluid swap via cooler lines within 5 months using OEM WS ATF. Never towed, lots of highway miles.

It was not hard. I disconnected both lines from the cooler. I had a second hand hold the new fluid higher to gravity feed as I turned on the motor and activated the transmission pump.

Took about 2 hours working slowly.
