So I had to show my jeep friend up by going through a bog that he got stuck in. The most important thing is that I made it through and made him look lame. The bad thing is that I messed a few things up.
1: My new alternator is screwed. Is there anything I can do to fix it, or should I just buy another one?
2: The starter needs to be hit with a hammer before it will turn the engine over. I assume it has dirty contacts in it and needs to be taken off and cleaned. It is also new.
3: My idle seems pretty high and has a hard time starting. Do you think that I may have damaged the MAF sensor? It just doesn't seem right.

i would just take the alt and starter off and clean them out really good and take the spark plugs out and turn the engine over a couple of time to get any water in the cylinders out. other than that i'm not sure what to do. spray a buttload of WD 40 on everything too.

I dont think i got water in the engine because it never died. It did run crappy for a frew minutes because I think I got the distributor wet.

Yes, hose it all off with WD-40, it wicks moisture out of areas that can normally stay wet. Pull your distributor cap off and make sure it isn't still wet in there, that can cause hell. Also electrical connectors can get corroded very easily when submerged in water. I would also pull the spark plugs and clean them all up even if they are dirty. Another good thing to do is pull codes, that will give you a better idea of what is going on if anything comes up. I would also drain the oil, replace the oil filter and also replace the air cleaner. Deep water can really screw stuff up.

Sounds good. I will pull the alternator off and take it apart and clean it. Will it show codes if the check engine light isn't on? I think I will also change the oil in the gear boxes and the axles. This was the first trip after rebuilding the knuckles so it kind of sucks that I need to change the oil there again.

I agree F$#k the JEEP and your check engine "light" itself will even forget codes after a certain amount of key on key offs but they will still be stored until they are reset (or should be, stranger things have happened). Dont forget to check your diffs, trans, tcase, etc. Water bad.

I just got the alternator off and it was pretty full of crap. Next is the starter. Thanks for all the help and suggestions. I hadn't heard of the wd40 trick until now. I will have to post some pictures of how stuck the jeep was. It was pretty damn funny.
