I converted my truck to r134... changed out the filter drier, vacuumed the system (for ~30 minutes) and charged with oil and refrigerant. It cools really well in the mornings/nights when it is not too hot outside, but in the hot afternoons, it sucks!

What did I miss? truck is a 92 22re

Thanks in advance,
ML

did you pressure test it?

How much gas did you put in?

what was the high side pressure and the low side pressure?
I hope you didnt turn the can upside down?
did you clean the evap?

Yes, pressurized with nitrogen...
Not sure how much gas I put in there, cant remember. Guesstimate is 24oz
I did turn the can upside down... would the liquid vs gas affect this?
I did not clean the evap... how easy (or difficult) is this?

Thanks,
ML

R134 is not as efficient as R12. To get the same cooling you need a larger condenser, looks like a radiator, to cool the compressed R134 for a longer time period. See if you can find one from a 4RNR. The 2nd gen version is larger for the 4RNR than the p/u, has an extra section to it.

You may need up to 32 or 36 onces?

putting liquid(turning the can upside down)into the system is bad for the compressor.......frezzes it.

Alot of dust and crap gets sucked into the ducts .The evap is located in the in the box of the heater core.......so its not easy to get to but over time it needs cleaned.

Thanks Cruiser,

What pressures numbers (hi/lo) are we looking for? i am going to evacuate and pull another vacuum.

Thanks,

sorry but I guess I have a ? can I put r134 in mine as I have an 87 truck but I thought it would require r12. The condenser is about the size of my radiater

Unless it has been converted, do NOT put r134 into your r12 system. If it is a functioning system I would keep it r12. My old 87 would freeze me even on the hottest of days.

where can u purchase R12 though
You can't...:crybaby:

I have a working r-12 AC system in my '89 2WD pickup. I have the equipment to recharge it properly, but no r-12 freon. So, the belt to the AC compressor is removed and the AC compressor clutch disconnected... A cheap conversion to R-134a would be worth it, but beyond that it isn't worth it.
