yeah...I caught that. dude's an idiot.

:D

How far would I have gone? Cross-country. When I was searching, the only limit I had was "no rust belt regions". Aside from that, I looked everywhere.

As it turned out, both of mine were local...so I didn't have to buy a ticket...but I would've...and not thought twice about doing it.

The "dude you got pulled out by a Lexus" comments on the trail are priceless!:hillbilly

Another catch-22 - if you buy with lockers or from a good mud head there might have been a lot of off road use.... & we might not be techy enough to spot off-road abuse (vs. use). oh my

Contrary to the above thought.....history has proved most new 80's w/lockers were ordered by the dealer and the first owners never used them. Many here have had stuck lockers from no use when the first get the vehicle. Without the CDL button the lockers will only come on in low range so since very few of these vehicles were ever really used off road low range/lockers were a waisted option for Soccer moms!

good to buy from off roaders

Ok, ok I'm learning - I see your point. Better to buy from people who care & use their stuff than get something from people who don't know, don't care & have never really used it. I have learned, my thinking is changed. Won't worry so much about buying something that has been used WELL. ("Caveat emptor" will always remain for any purchase.) Good on you & Beowulf for changing my thinking. Thank you:)

Where is Diffs. for Dummies?

:frown: Help! I've been looking & looking & I don't find a specific "thing" on Diffs. for Dummies using the search tool..... I find alot of threads & we've started reading them but if I understand the earlier posts there's a specific place/booklet/explanatory page called Diffs. for Dummies. And I must be a real dummy 'cuz I can't find it.

FOUND IT on another site

You let yourself say things like that just because you KNOW you know your stuff on this! Reading some of your advice from March '03 has been helpful too.

Ping-pong - you sure write back as fast as we do...... hhmm hhhmmm hmmm you must be as busy as we are! (sorry if this is too chatty for the others)

Who's afraid of the big bad Beowulf?

Actually Smack, that was injecting a little humour toward Raven. He is at a bad place in his life right now and a laugh might help if he sees the irony.

I live up here in the N. East and haven't experienced the excessive rusting reported by others who don't live here.

The trucks up here typically lead sheltered lives and rarely driven in bad weather as primarily female operated. So they are usually in good shape with a few exceptions.

I do field service in the N. East and depending on your time frame could meet up with you so you might get some hands on with one of these trucks, and yes I have lockers.

Any rusting is excessive when you live in NM. :D

How's the factory roof racks holding up, mine's fine.

As shown in the pic below, I had a huge speck of rust in one nutsert. It was probably the size of 4 or 5 grains of salt. Drove me crazy... so I ripped off the rack, buffed the rust off the nutsert, and covered that puppy with sealer, SS screws, and galvanized washers.

That is excessive rust in New Mexico!

just as I thought, not immune.

One thing is for sure you guys from down that way do obsess about it. When it come up in a thread it's always from that direction.

Another thing, no way I'd pay more money for an AZ truck just to bring it home and have it look just like one thousands of dollars cheaper.
