Yeah, does look like a later valance with the wider opening. See post #7 in thread below for photos of a later model 80 with just the grill and not the valance swapped. Note the gaps between the older grill and newer valance:

Older grill on a '97?
Someone told me that as long as you have the lower valance, you can use the older grill with the TOYOTA emblem Now I hear you cant exchange them at all Whats the scoop? Thx! Peter
