Does anybody know if the 5 speeds had any major problems? I'm looking at one with 140k and a bad clutch for 1500.00. Any thoughts?

That's what i'm worried about.
Probably a bad idea but only $1500.00!! I saw the clutch kit is 430.00 or so. I figured it can't be that bad.
Thanks
See if you can talk him down.... throw in some toy axles and get a different motor and you'll have a nice looking capable rig....

Land Rover Discovery?
Just start punching yourself in the face for the next 2 months. When you stop it'll be like Rover ownership except way, way cheaper.
I had a 95 in the shop last week. It reminded me very much of 80s era Jaguars. Every single part was poorly built crap. If the 5 speed was problem free it was the only part. I looked up the Technical Service Bulletins just to see. I've never seen so many issued on one model. The Cadillac Catera is a damn wonder of engineering compared to a Disco.
yeah except the last true 60 was built in 1987 right? a 20 year old, s***ty maintained vehicle will have multiple issues, disco's were so bad they changed the line a few years ago because the reputation was killing land rover.
You really can't compare the two. Look at a 95 Land Cruiser vs. a 95 Disco. Same price, same mission. The Cruiser will have issues. The Disco will have problems with every damn thing.
Mace-It's nice to not bash and accentuate the positive aspects of whatever, but in this case you could be leading someone down the road of Rover ownership. You shouldn't do that to anyone.
Case in point - The last one I worked on had chrome-capped lug nuts. GM did this in the 80s. Water gets under the caps and causes them to swell. You have to bust off the caps with a chisel, then hammer on a smaller size socket and hope a lot because the steel part of the nut isn't really a hex, nor is it a real size. If it comes off, you have to hammer the inner part out of your socket and start with the next one. easily an hour to do one wheel. This poor idea had been tried and proven as poor 10 years before LR did it. LR went one step further and made the lug nuts a very strange size and very unique. There is no readily available replacements in aftermarket. New lug nuts with the same problems as the old ones are $27 each from the dealer. That's over $500 in lug nuts.
