so i have a 3.slow, 5 spd and such in my runner , i have the abs rear axle so i need to replace the wheel bearing , i have a press, getting ready to get parts and was cheking to see if anyone had any info on doing this job? aligning the reluctor ring and spacers so there is no leaks. as i said any info will be appreciated. has anyone done this?

I've done several rear axle rebuilds, but never one with the ABS tone ring out by the drum. The earlier trucks used the ring gear in the diff as the ABS tone ring.

Besides a press, you need a jig to hold the axle in the press. Do you have one of these?

everything i read said that there was a sensor at each wheel, i checked and the sensor is there , so the tone ring and spacers have to be cut off , before you can get the wheel bearing off, i will make a jig for the press like online, ive done my 87 2 times and it was easy, but the shops want 600 to do my runner! i just didnt want to mess with it, but for that price i will do it myself. ive checked around and there isnt that much info on this? so i figure measure and mark it a few times to make sure it goes back togather right the same way it came apart. just been waiting fot the money for parts (like 260) for all. wish i didnt have the stupid abs, but this runner has been good to me.

so after doing a generic search on google, i found that some have built a adapter for a press to push the spacer and ring off along with the bearing. so that is my next task that and finding money for parts. could it just be the seal and not the bearing? anyone have any info?

anyone know if the just the seal could have went out and not the bearing? still driving and leaking diff fluid, just enough to drip out, and i know its not a wheel cylinder leaking. I guess this site is not frequented alot like some of the others, maybe pirate 4x4, and others are busier?

I suppose that's possible. I think that most times the bearing also gets replaced "just in case" since it's often a royal pain to get the thing pressed apart. They're not that expensive.

I will be going all through my rear axle next spring, all new seals, brakes, brake lines, etc. But, I know the bearings are fine so I will be re-using them.

I made my press jig out of an extra axle housing, like most do. Very easy to do, and it works really well. I've used it a lot more than I expected. I can post pics again if you need, but they're posted here somewhere, you can probably find them with a search.
