94 Pickup 22RE - Rough Idle starting cold for 15-20 seconds in the morning, then it begins to run normal, runs fine when warm..

I've changed the plugs and thermostat already..

Has anyone else seen this problem?

check timing and set idle speed at operating temperature

check pcv valve. check air filter. check operation of cold start injector.

I will check the timing...pcv valve and air filter are new, can you give me a little more detail on the cold start injector? I know nothing about it...thanks WristPin..

you are welcome :D

the cold start injector is only used when the coolant temp is below that of operating temperature. its sole purpose is to give a blast of fuel to assist initial startup. kinda like pumping the throttle on a carburated engine. it is hooked directly to the fuel line. there is a 2 wire connector plugged to it. it is like a regular injector, but has a single line bolted to it, rather than inline like the main 4 injectors.
it is located on the top of the plenum, near the 22RE insigna, on the side, a single steel line and a single wire connector will give it away.

test it: loosen the banjo bolt on the fuel line. fuel shoud squirt out.
disconnect the plug, measure voltage, while your helper cranks it. you shoud see a short 12 volt reading. using a analog multimeter is best in this situation

it is uncommon for one of these to fail. you are mainly going to see if you have adequate pressure, and to see if any critters knawed the wire harness.
a fuel filter would be good thing to replace while you are at it. boy those are fun

Yes, cold start injectors rarely fail, but I have seen them totally clogged up with old gas crud so they wouldn't squirt anymore. It's held into the plenum with 2 small bolts, if you carefully pull it out you can save the gasket. A decent fuel injector cleaner with usually take care of it, just spray it well and wipe with a rag.

I just changed the cap & rotor, new spark wires and did the seafoam thing...Truck runs better than when I bought it, thanks for all the advice
