'93 4x4 regular cab with a 22re. 320k on the body, about 100ish k on a rebuilt longblock i put in years ago. this truck gets about 4k a year, dump runs, trips to lowes and to haul things. i do get it out every month or so for interstate drives to make sure things get blown out but...

it starts and runs/idles fine. but at speed when i get on the gas it will hesitate/miss and the truck will lurch. a cel comes on then goes off intermittently. wanting to start at a zero point i tuned it yesterday. had been years since i had done it.

new plugs, wires, rotor, cap, oil change. timing set still doing it. when i checked the timing, which was off, i noticed the timing mark is wavering a little, not holding steady. i know 100k is about time for the timing chain, it has a little slap to it until oil pressure comes up. but if the gears and or chain were worn enough could it cause what i am getting when i accelerate?

at a bit of a loss here, any help appreciated. not wanting to just throw parts at it...

thanks. found the faq to check codes but am wondering if it has retained a code or not since it doesn't stay on. sometimes it comes on... sometimes it doesn't and no correlation to the cel and it missing and hesitating....

ok, i turned the ignition on, jumped te1 and e1. the cel blinks once then about 1.5 seconds later blinks again. about 4.5 seconds later repeats the cycle. from the faq i found on here that would be code 2. no second digit of a code and no additional codes saved in the ecu. so the question is, what is error code 2?

ok, finally got back into this. first of all the air filter was filthy so i replaced it. the clamps on either end of the intake were loose as well so i tightened those and had my fingers crossed. didn't help. so i ran the tests listed here Toyota 22RE Air Flow Meter (AFM) and have a little confusion.

the static tests were fine. on the dynamic tests, test one... E1-FC fully closed my meter doesn't change at all when i put the leads on the pins. when the plate is opened i get 4.2 ohms. this says to me it fails the test. am i correct or am i misreading this?

No, that sounds alright to me. The reading should be a little closer to 0, 0.5-1 is considered good. 4 is a little high, but I would not call it bad just yet... I would also check the conditions of your rubber intake boots, if they are cracked, then the engine is sucking unmetered air and will not run well...

checking that next. but if those are ok, then what of these would i check next, and what the heck are they??? am i safe in assuming what i just checked is the 2nd one? the airflow meter/circuit? if so what are the Manifold and / or Airflow Meter Sensor Signal Circuit and Manifold Pressure Sensor / Circuit and where will i find them? I'm good with the mechanical parts but haven't ever had to play with these sort of sensors much

Manifold and / or Airflow Meter Sensor Signal Circuit

Airflow Meter / Circuit

Manifold Pressure Sensor / Circuit

There is no Manifold Pressure Sensor on our trucks. Definitely check for cracks in the intake tubing but with 4.2 ohms in a sensor that is notorious for being bad but testing good I'd swap it for a known good one. Obviously if it runs better then you know where your fault is. If it doesn't then you know where to look. I'd put money on it being that VAFM though
