91 Shifting issue

Grinding noise makes it a whole other kettle of fish! There is no cover, I would remove the fill plug, check fluid level, then drain it and see how much junk is in the fluid, on the magnet. Sometimes can see carnage through the fill hole, but sounds like the diff needs to come out anyway.
