The clutch on the 91 is doing crazy stuff. If you let the clutch out less than half and then try to depress the pedal to reengage the clutch it will still be engaged , so if you let the clutch out fully and re depress the pedal it will work fine. This is a real bitch at lights and in parking lots etc. Any thoughts would be welcome. We did bleed the clutch . Clutch works great except when pedal is let out part way and then redepressed. Slave gone ?

thanks

My first thought is the seal in your master is going... Holding it around halfway, the fluid bleeds off... and you go to press it and there's not enough to get the clutch freed up........ $0.02

Could be the slave, but if it's the slave it would be a leaker, and you'd be missing fluid after a while...

I can easily fix your problem, on the cheap, and knock out a BUNCH of PM, but I don't think you want to hear it....

Three things:

1: Acquire a clutch, master and slave cyl. Install them

2: Acquire a clutch set and install it.

3: Oh wait, that's two....

You could have anything from, broke PP fingers, a release bearing not operating smoothly, to losing pressure in the Master or slave. Either way, if you do steps 1 & 2, you've just added another 200k of trouble free miles to your 91...at least from that area

I had sort of a wierd experience like you are describing with the clutch in an 86 4Runner I had. When I took it apart I discovered that the clutch disc rubber bushings (yes this one had bushings not springs - don't know why) had come apart and were tumbleing around in between the disc and pressure plate. When they wedged themselves in the right spot the clutch wouldn't disengage.

Slaves gone only if it's pukin fluid. If neither the master or slave is soaked, it's looking alot like teardown time. I had a friend help with driveline bolts and borrowed a friends lift and had mine back on the ground in three hours. And that included safety meetings and rehydration breaks. Good luck and have fun getting to know your truck better.
