The last handle you will buy for your hatch, solid CNC machined aluminum! USA Made!

Now updated to V2.0 :) We have made a new design for the current production run that resembles a Grenade release handle. It is ergonomically curved. Looks and works great. After 7 years of production, we are happy to have a new run available.

Also, customers have let us know that they work on 60 series, 80 series, 100 series, LX450, and LX470. We have had a user mount one on a 70 series (if you don't mind the grip being in the opposite direction).

Original Post from 2012:
"XLC 91-97 80 Series Toyota Land Cruiser / LX450 lower gate mechanical latch handle. This handle completely replaces the factory plastic piece, on 91-94 can reuse your original screw, on 95 up models we supply a replacement screw. This is the latch you see when you lift your upper gate and look at the top of the lower gate. Replace your worn out, broken, or missing piece. CNC Machined from a solid block of billet aluminum, robotic drilled spline, and tumbled to remove any rough edges." MADE IN USA

$45.00 + Shipping

Best way to order is to call me by phone/text directly (not PM) or email using address from website ryan@extremelandcruiser.com
(Sorry our website is no longer intuitive, or able to place most orders... Need to redesign it.) We can invoice directly.

3rd picture is the evolution of the handle idea starting back in 2010 after my daughter snapped off the OEM plastic handle like a twig when pulling camping gear out of the hatch.

Thanks to everyone at IH8MUD for supporting this project. It isn't really a killer income, so my wife freaks out every time I invest into doing another production run. Your support is what motivates me.

20pcs available as of 9/30/19 Once they're gone, they're gone.

Nice looking handle, if you don't mind me asking what make and size tumbler are you using and how do you like it?

So got mine and figured I would give a quick review. I do like it overall but I do have two nits.

Here you can see the new aluminum handle and then side by side with the plastic one still attached.

The screw itself that holds the handle down is a type of screw I've never seen before on any Toyota. Interesting that Toyota would make a unique screw just for the handle. Removing the handle was just a screwdriver to pop it off.

Now my nits...

1. The handle can't sit in the same orientation as the OEM handle. It's a few degrees off but enough to be immediately noticeable. This could be because it changes from truck to truck as the actuator is installed but if the splines were identical to the OEM one them it should rest in the same orientation.

2. The hole for the screw needs to be opened up about .001". It's enough where the screw wants to try and thread into the new handle. A quick swipe with a round file takes care of it.

3. There is no undercut for the head of the screw which means the entire top of the head of the screw sits above the new handle instead of sitting flush on the old one.

So none of these are fatal flaws but just notes for the next round to get them perfect. I like mine a lot. I will have my machine shop put in an undercut and match the chamfer. Then I will anodize the handle black so that it looks near stock.

LC80 Billet Aluminum Tailgate Handle Updates

Thanks for the feedback! We have found that Toyota supplied two versions of the plastic handle. If you have the earlier 91-94 style, the factory screw is beveled. if you have the 95 and up, the screw has the chamfer. On future shipments we will ask which year of 80 the customers have so we can include a screw for use with 1995 and up models. We will always consider all feedback for the planning of future production.

Here is the handle installed on a 1991 FJ80, 91-94's use a different screw type.

We will send you a screw so you do not have to machine the handle. Thanks again for for your purchase!
