k so i have a 91 4 runner 4x4 with the v6 trying to figure out why it wont start. it just stopped running one day this last august . so today i start tinkering with it . i assumed it was the fuel pump as i verified it was getting spark, and pulled the oil cap to make sure the valve train was working while cranking. and it has 3/4 tank of gas next i crack the fuel line where it runs into the fuel rail and turn the key on but engine off position and no fuel pressure, no fuel at all comes out . so then i crank the motor with the line still cracked, fuel starts spraying out and the motor fires and idles fine . but of course fuel is spraying everywhere cuz the line is still cracked. so i then turn the motor off and tighten the fuel line back up and try to start the motor and it cranks but no start. i was thinking maybe a bad pressure regulator but im not positive . any one else have any ideas or advice??

When the key is in the ON position without the engine running, the fuel pump won't run. You need air flow thru the air box to trigger the switch on the AFM so the pump turns on. The other time the pump will run is when you are cranking the engine.

Take a paper clip, find the Diagnostic connector under the hood (by the fuse box), jumper across the B+ and Fp contacts. Then turn the key to ON. Now you should hear the pump running, and hear fuel hissing through the fuel injector rail and past the pressure regulator. If you hear this, try to start it with the jumper in place.

Report back.
