After the truck sits a while its hard to start. I did the B+/Fp test and it started right up. Where is the cold start injector, can i test it by pulling it and running the Fp and see if it sprays gas? Is there any way to test the fuel pressure regulator on the front of the fuel rail, or do i just have to replace it to see. I read about the fuel pressure dampener but i don't have one on the other end of the rail, do i have one, where is it, and can i check it?

I have no fuel leaks, the Fp has less than 20k

The dampener is on the pass side rail, under the back of the intake. You can just barely see and touch it if you have small hands...

It sounds like the cold start injector is fine if you jumped the fuel pump and it started right up.

You are loosing fuel pressure somewhere. I've owned a hand full of V6's and I've seen 3 failed dampeners personally, so it's a fairly common problem. Try to see of feel if the dampener is leaking.

would you start with the dampener or the regulater or both. is it easier to just go get both and replace and quit trying to diagnose? Are 1 of these generally the problem.

It's usually the dampener in my experience. You can usually tell if it's leaking by looking or feeling after it's been running for a minute and the pressure is still up. The regulator is probably easier to change, but I've never had one fail...

if the dampener is bad does it have to be leaking fuel, or can it be bad and not leaking?

BTW a quick way to be sure the cs injector is good....its supposed to read 2-4 ohms

If the dampener is causing the loss of fuel pressure then it almost surely is leaking. I can be leaking just a small amount that you would not smell it, but enough to loose pressure...

Thats what happened to me, and due to the temps back there and the low flash point of gas, the fuel flashes off very fast so you will prolly never see it. It sucks changing those things!

turns out it was the fuel line in the tank connected to the FP. the line was all buggered up and wouldn't hold pressure. the tank ended up being full of rust so i had to clean and seal the tank, replace the FP, bracket the FP hangs on, the fuel line from the tank to the filter and the filter.

thought i'd post the fix so other people with starting problems would know to check the rubber line in the tank.

not to be ignorant, but there is not much rubber line in those tanks bro! i think the rust would be most of your problem, buy the way if you let your truck set for long periods of time, fill up your gas tank.

Doesn't take much rubber line when it is cracked and won't hold pressure on Fp side or hard line side. Although the tank was an issue, it was not causing it to be hard to start. when i would jump the FP before hitting the key it would fire right up. after it sat al night i could crack the lines all the way back to the tank and there was no fuel in the lines. It was deffinately a fuel pressure issue not a fuel starvation issue, now its niether
