88 4runner transmission problems

I have an 88 4runner with an automatic transmission problem-it will not go in reverse. The drive works ok, but no reverse. Ive been told i need a new tranny-is that correct? Also, do i need a new transfer case too? And what kind of transmission options do I have-can i go with a manual?

Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated!

Ya unless u can rebuilda auto tranny you need one....


could go with manual but you need to swap pedal assemblies and holesaw a hole thru firewall for the clutch master....PITA but doable

Time for a 5-speed swap! Seriously, it's not that hard, lots of people have done it.

Where are you located? I have pretty much all the parts you'd need, including the tranny.
