88 4Runner fuel gauge problems

Anyone know why the fuel gauge would not work? The light still comes on for low fuel.

mine swings up and down and I have no fuel light in my 85 4runner

most likely the float in the tank has a hole in it, and therefore does not float,

OR

the very tiny sensitive wiring that is used in the variable resistor at the bottom of the sending unit is shorted. happens a lot.

thats whats wrong with mine, just havent gotten around to buying a new sending unit, or tried to fix mine.

like you said, the light still works.

There is a detailed troubleshooting procedure in the FSM for both the float and the gauge.

Can the entire sender unit even ordered though toyota anymore...?

Thats strange I counlnt find any info in thr FSM about the sender or float what section
